Hi I recently bought a BJ, and it's sounding terrible. I didn't have a chance to test in in the store, but I had tried some before and loved them.

I plugged my guitar and started playing... and the sound is terrible, veeery low, even at maximum master and volume levels, and it sounds muddy/distorted (on any gain or volume level)... it also sounds as if the speaker's gone bad, but I've heard that a bad speaker is rarely the case.

Also, the two power tubes have, along with the regular orange glow, a small blue glow on one of the sides... I read online that a blue light means a bad tube, so I'm wondering if that's the problem.

I guess it's worth noting I transported the amp on a plane recently as carry on luggage with just a cover. Even though I treated it very carefully I'm wondering if something happened along the flight... Some folks here advised me to transport the amp via FedEx or UPS, but the shipping fee was more expensive than the amp itself, so it really wasn't an option for me.

Thanks! (sorry if I'm being a little ignorant, this is my first tube amp)

Yest it could be a tube. But a blue glw is always a bad tube.

Are you sure your tubes a well plugged in their socket ? Can you return the amp for Waranty ?

That doesn't sound like a BJ to me. With everything on full, they're deafening! Sounds like tube issues to me as well..

Dark Blue Glow, usually, it is due to secondary emission of the plate that makes electron on the glass. The blue glow decreases when glass temperature increases.
Blue lighty is due to electron beam;

Other blue arking are usually due to air leakage.

To see that you have to swich off the room light during the night!

Hmm no, I'm afraid returning the amp is not really an option for me... If I send the amp to a guitar tech in order to change the tubes I'll lose the warranty, right?

Wrong. Changing tubes does not void the warranty.
