Hi Fender peeps,

This is my first time posting, and I was hoping to get some sage advice from all of the Fender fans and gurus out there. I have severe back and knee problems, and I am also relocating to a condo, and, while I dearly love my Fender Vibro King (3X10 Blonde), it's just too hefty and loud for my circumstances. I need to step down to something 30watts or less (with a master vol, unlike my VK), and something more light weight. What I would really like to have is a "Vibro King Jr.", but I know there is no such beast. Can anybody give me some advice on what I should look into? I'm really not a big fan of 'amp modeling', and I would probably like to try to stay in the style of the VK. In fact, the only reason I want to deviate from that format with a master volume, is to keep my soon-to-be neighbors from complaining, otherwise the VK layout is fine with me. Please tell me Fender makes something that can fit the bill.

Thanks,
PaulBlackford

Try the Custom Vibrolux Reverb. Fender even calls it a “little Vibro-King™.” see here: http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 0215100000

The CVR doesn't have a master volume, but it doesn't need one since it has no negative feedback and runs the preamp really hard so it gets the tubes cookin' quickly and doesn't have much headroom at all. Don't expect heavy metal distortion from it though.

For your specific circumstances I'd recommend finding one of the old Rivera-era Super Champ amps from the '80s. It's an all-tube 2 x 6v6 platform rated at 25 watts with a single 10-inch speaker. It has a usable master volume control with pull-boosts for the tone stack plus on-board reverb. Tremolo is not included but I wouldn't let that be a deal-breaker. Reasonably-clean examples are often offered on C/L and Ebay with prices between $600 and $900.

Best of luck, HTH

Thanks for the insight. I think I'm just going to have to go and play everything I can get my hands on, and look for a replacement. I'll definitely check out the Super Champ, but I don't know how easy it will be to find a specific vintage. Thanks, again.
