Better is whatever you can afford, and if you can afford it go for a Deluxe Reverb instead

Tough call olelancucki,

For a used amp, you would want to be sure of it's condition and amount of time on the tubes. You might want to consider having to buy new tubes for a used amp, and price it accordingly. Personally, I like the sound of the MIM versions better than the original US version. The originals had a problem with the reverb circuit placement, which was corrected in the first MIM version. But, there is something to be said about the feeling of being the only one to use a new amp, and having a warranty to go with it. I don't hesitate to buy used, but it has to be a good deal price wise, to allow for possible repairs of unseen problems. Of course the new BJr III is supposed to be an improved version, both cosmetically and under the hood....

If you buy new at least you'll have a warranty to fall back on if anything went wrong- that would be a buying point for me.If you buy used you have no guarantee that the amp wasn't abused even if it looks great it may have been overdriven too much and had the tubes fried.

I'd go for a used Deluxe Reverb Reissue. Personally, I wouldn't buy any Hot Rod series amp used from anyone. YMMV Just my opinion.

ah yes, Deluxe Reverb is sweet, but that's just way too expensive for me :)

Here's something pretty sweet too. Designed by the legendary Mike Soldano and pretty inexpensive too. IMO a way better value than a Blues Jr.
