I've been meaning to try this with my 40w (2 6L6's) tube amp as I've heard the jj's can handle the plate voltages. This in essence would reduce the wattage to about 22watts, right? Has anyone tried this? Can you share the results with us? I'm very curious to know.
Thanks.

I have a HRD 212 60w and I just re-tubed my amp with JJ's fgrom Eurotubes... I got the Blues Option2.
Description: A pair of the JJ 6V6's to drop the output to about 30 watts, a standard ECC83S in V1, an ECC832 in V2 to drop the gain a bit & give a very natural blues tone & a balanced ECC83S in V3 for the phase inverter. Smooth, a little earlier breakup, a great tone!

I like my amp much more now. Can actually use the "More Drive" Channel.

Hi fender323,

I have been thinking about the same thing for my HRDlx, I want to try the 6V6s. The only concern would be to set the bias pot to have a very low idle current (as low as possible) before changing to the 6V6, such that the new tubes don't red-plate when installed. Then set the bias correctly for the 6V6. Otherwise it should work just fine. Although I haven't tried the 6L6 to 6V6 change, I have gone the other way with my C600. I put a 6L6 in place of the 6V6, so I didn't have to worry about the bias, but really enjoyed the results and much different/louder, beefier sound. The 6L6 pulls about 50% more filament current than the 6V6, so that would be a concern when going this route (changing a 6V6 to 6L6), but no worry going from 6L6 to 6V6 except the bias setting.
