I use a Line 6 X3 Live when performing. It makes the sound guys happy and the band happy, too. Our monitors are in ear, electronic drum kit, not much live volume on the stage--all PA (10,000 Watts). The sound techs keep the avg SPL below 100 at the board, hard to do with a Marshall half-stack. But the Line 6 is not as much fun to play, nor as responsive, as my AC30 or my Princeton RI. When I'm at home, I use my amps, not the Pod.
A big plus for the Line 6 is preprogramming song settings. With one footswitch, the tone I need, the type of reverb, delay, modulation, and compression are all selected. Very convenient.
For fun, for me, for jams: I choose the tube amps. For getting the job done, where I need to play many different styles: I choose the Line 6.

Yeah, but it's still kind of amusing to see the dueling with JS, since he hasn't a leg to stand on.

True, when you choose convenience over tone. I saw a HDNET concert a few hours ago with Warren Haynes playing live. He had the Leslie speaker out and all the old amps, keyboards, and all. No compromise there.

An easy way to keep stage volume down....go with a low wattage amp say 15 watts and mice everything. Then you get the best of both worlds...true tube tone and low stage noise levels..:)
ABS :D

PS Johnny just loves to rattle the cage every now and then..:D

yes i do love rattling the kiddies cages. and yes, like skinner's bow-wows the usual reaction followed by howls of self-indignation and disingenuous protest.

hey arjay, at least i get to fly, you? a broom, perhaps?

the thing that bugs some simpletons from the past century is that their "i remember when" world is shrinking. you can milk a past glory only for so long. the new generation is computer savy, well-educated, expressive, and want to find THEIR sound. the Mustangs and SEs give them the tools. isn't it about time the "i remember when" generation let the new generation do their thing without the howls?

ciao,
johnny.

2261 hours logged, cupcake -- almost 1600 of those combat sorties on behalf of my countrymen.

Go impale yourself on a "marital aid", pal.

Past glory? That's funny. If you go to the products section of this very site and check the artists tabs for amps the Bassman artists alone outnumber the Cyber artists by almost three to one. And that's just one outdated tube amp.
