Speaking of dicks and things that get red, hot, and smelly, ever hear of reverse psychology? I am delighted that the toobsters have given China their seal of approval. I guess we have established that stuff made in China is OK afterall & yes Mustangs are made in China.

BTW, Cyber Twin is made is Mexico, Cyber Commander was created in Canada & the US. I have have no idea if that makes any difference.

if you're gonna play chess, you gotta think more than one move ahead.

ciao friends & foes (to quote a line, "I'll be back")

"We" haven't established anything, Mr. Fischer.

But the indisputable fact is, long after your beloved cyber-trash has found its ultimate home in some landfill and you and I are taking our dirt naps, millions of Fender tube amps will still be earning their keep.

It depends what you call reliability, valve is a part with wearing, maintenance is necessary like your brake on car !
A lot of amp valve or SS have a poor quality PCB, coper tickness very thin, cheap components, cheap holes and process used is wave soldering with a huge variability. That makes a poor reliability over valve-SS consideration.
As I don't open a mustang, I don't know;

When I received my BSEE in 1976, there was one chapter on tubes and one chapter on integrated circuits in my text books. Everything was discrete solid state devices. My computer studies were Fortran and punch cards. Today I have a PC with more compute power than the mainframe at my school, I work on classified systems that boggle the mind, and I play a tube guitar amp.

OMG. I am not this poster, although I played(am playing?) him IRL. Sometimes, there's just TOO much in common. Oh, wait, I do not own any single-coil axes. Saved.

I wish I could A/B a Mustang IV and a CT SE. I would like to hear for myself what my old ears are going to have to pay $500 to get and check the crunchy emulation(s) of one against the other.

In point of fact, these platforms are useful when operating properly, especially for home or studio use where rough "road-handling" is not a factor. The biggest problem (and it is a deal-breaker for many, especially those who expect to keep their gear for more than a year or two) is that the advanced technologies used in these amps is generally eclipsed by ever-newer developments -- so swiftly that the older components rapidly obsolesce and manufacture of these parts ceases. High-tech amps only ten years old are already logistically non-supportable in many cases and those who own this aging gear are "on borrowed time" should a major calamity befall it. Thus, the technology becomes an unwitting-and-ironic victim of its own success. Anyone contemplating one of these modeling amps should keep this in mind.

That is so true.I remember when the POD 2.0 was supposed to be the puppies nutz and now is such an obsolete thing.Yet my DRRI marches on and still remains relevant.

the nice thing about about modelling amps is that they continue to evolve and get better and better and better. tubes, well, stuck in the 50's, with a 50's sound, past glories, and the high priest like defenders, aka Luddites of the guitar world. i do not know of a word that properly describes a guitar player that thinks like a Luddite. a Luddicarist? Ludicrous isn't it? It's worth looking up the history of Luddites.

Fischer, nope, with some here, it's more like Skinner. i think the conditioning shows. it's also worth looking up Skinner's theory on conditioned response. Bow-wow kids.

anyways, the nice thing about the Mustangs is the layout of the control knobs. the amp tells you what it's up to, easier to understand & access, but rather limited. if you take the time to setup properly, you should be able to access your presets easily. Still, the SE & Cyber Commander is the bar for accessibility and ease of use, and a heck of lot more range and options. nevertheless, you get a lot for what you pay for.

things end up in closets, garages, salvation army thrift shops, and landfills. many reasons, but essentially it's waste, and it's part of the human condition. but if you really like something, you'll hang on to it, use it, play with it, maybe even fondle it, until something better comes along. like a new partner for example, hopefully nothing red, hot or smelly. they have antibiotics for thongs like that, but the best medicine may prove to be a digital dose of modern tones. maybe even tube tones. as long as you're playing & having fun.

on travel sun/mon/tues/wed. if i don't respond, it'll be because i'll be flight testing, but don't worry, i won't disappoint, i'll be back.

roger, over & clear,
johnny.

I still like and use mine too. It's proven to be a very good amp.

Very true, for whatever people buy and use.
And that last part bears repeating "as long as you're playing & having fun"
