Popular opinion is highly overated, especially ones like "tubes are obsolete" or "tubes are a dying technology"

When I received my BSEE in 1976, there was one chapter on tubes and one chapter on integrated circuits in my text books. Everything was discrete solid state devices. My computer studies were Fortran and punch cards. Today I have a PC with more compute power than the mainframe at my school, I work on classified systems that boggle the mind, and I play a tube guitar amp.

LMAO

Same here, Bill. At least it was up until I retired in 2000.

Since then I've been through three PC's plus my current laptop.

Still playing the same tube jobs though -- I'll never give those up!

I forget.

Excuse me but I have to go change the pickup selector switch in my humbucker guitar, then open up the box containing the Ibanez guitar I won in their contest before Xmas, then I'll have to plug everything into my tube amp and play some sweet blues. Not all at the same time, though.

This is my current rig: 2009 MIM Standard Strat with SCN pups (completely rewired with better components), "Lyon by Washburn" (that I picked up for $55 and completely rebuilt) with GFS Fat Pat humbuckers, BDRI and Frontman 25R amps, and pedal board with Boss TU-3, CS-3, BD-2, and OD-3.

No photos of the Ibanez (just finished setting it up) but here is its web page:

http://www.ibanez.com/ElectricGuitars/model-GRGA32

Mine is black. I plan on replacing the tuners, bridge, and knobs with chrome ones. The humbuckers are a little cleaner than the Fat Pats, but they still sound too similar, so I'll replace them with something different. I will also replace the pots and switch with better components and rewire the whole thing.

see, i told you we would have a bit of fun.

now to business... Cyber Twins are the first wave (still the best IMHO). Mustangs are the second wave. Programmable. PC-controllable. Software downloadable. Toneful. Affordable. Reliable as heck. Stageworthy. Roadworthy. Required: creative players - go make your mark. and i'm willing to bet big there will be a third wave.

tubes, same-old same-old since the 50's except chinese tubes, ex-soviet tubes, commie tubes. well they're there for those that want them. i wouldn't know why.

wonder how long before i get chased around the block...

ciao,
johnny.

I love watching you step on your own dick -- just who the hell do you think is making your beloved sacred cows?
