see http://www.fender.com/products/mustang for the latest lineup of Mustang I / II / III / IV / V line of "modern guitar amplifiers (1985 - current)".

Real innovation, Fender Fuse software, Digital Signal Processing, affordability, portability, and tonnes of tones. And not one tube.

Cyber Twin SE & Cyber Commander, still very, very impressive when compared.

your thoughts?

ciao,
johnny.

Interesting expansion but... no tubes not interested

Though it is not a real Champ my SCXD is interesting. I would love to see Fender expand this hybrid line like they are doing here with the Mustangs

my thoughts;
A very interesting line of amps. Some of the best news from Fender in a long time.
BTW - I have, and use, a Fender Cyber-Twin SE amp, with the supporting cyber commander software. It's a great sounding amp. So, given the development time between the Cyber-Twin SE and this new Mustang line, I expect them to be even better sounding (if that is possible :D ).

Another thought - no tubes - that is GREAT! Keep up the good work Fender!

I'm primarily a tube guy but I have to say I do like these amps. A guy brought a Mustang II to our local blues jam a couple of weeks ago and I was very impressed with the tone and options. At the pricepoint they sell at they are going to be very popular. A friend of mine at GC said they were flying off the shelves. With the Fuze capability they are the next logical step in a Cyber series amp. That 1/2 stack looks pretty interesting.

I'm certain they'll prove to be as reliable and durable as the FM series amps and they'll become as ubiquitous on stages large and small all across America as the legendary Vox Super Beatle.

tried out the FUSE with the Mustang. compared against Cyber Commander, i think FUSE has a way to go. Does not provide all tone settings in one glance (like Cyber Commander), with FUSE there's lot's of pull down menus. Confusing and somewhat painful. FUSE graphics look sexy, but oh so primitive with stomp box graphics.

Amp tones are good, Mustang IV has "punch", definitely stage capable. SE tones more tweakable, greater range and versatility. SE's still best.

for the money, used SE is the best deal compared to a Mustang IV/V. for low cost, Mustang I/II are incredible value for the money and probably beat out anything out there (especially costly things like a blues junior).

yeah, no tubes, feels good and sounds good too.

ciao,
johnny.

Maybe Fender could rename this section "the tube only section 85 to current", and start a new section for "everything else 85 to current". (or vice-versa)

That way the tube folks could have a place all to themselves for all their "stuff", and everyone else could be free to just discuss the new modern amps that Fender produces.

That way everybody wins.

Does that sound like something that could work?

I have not tried out any of the new Mustang amps, but have listened to recordings on YouTube.
You are the first person I have heard of to compare them to the Cyber-Twin SE.
Thanks, that is a good comparison for me! :D
I already know that the Cyber-Twin SE sounds fantastic. :D

as far as me posting in some other forum, no. but you can if you want to, and have a nice trip.

hi oldfender!

I'll try to get some play time and post any other findings. I held back a bit when I said SE's are still the best, the SE's are, to my ear, much, much more toneful, sound richer, more nuances, and they have punch.

The SE's are what I would call pro-grade amps. The Mustangs are more from entry to advanced level amps. I would expect anyone starting out to go with a Mustang I/II because these amps offer incredible value for the money. My advice would be to buy the best guitar you can afford & a Mustang I or II - that'll keep you playing for a long, long time, and no need for pedals or any other stomp box (or expensive tubes to fiddle with for no gain, yes it's a pun).

Their USB connectivity is a real nice touch. I would expect software upgrade of the Mustangs because of this, but we'll see if that happens. The Mustangs have potential and maybe Fender has some real pro-grade stallions in the stables, we'll have to see. For now, SE's are the pro-grade equipment, Mustangs from beginner to advanced. But as I said, for the money, incredible value. It just occured to me: for the cost of a bunch of tubes, you can purchase a Mustang I or II. Hmmm... a bunch of tubes vs a modern amp... and what value are you getting for your money?

ciao,
johnny.

i see the teenagers are back. ok, let's play.

tubes are like a teenager's underwear, both have to be changed often before something goes red, hot, and smelly. bwwwaaahahahahaha. and like teenagers, some just can't resist playing with their tubes. and then something gets red, hot and smelly.

btw teenagers, ss is generally a lot more reliable than tubes, or your underwear for that matter.
