Steve Grindrod one of the main men behind the development of some of Vox's most famous amps, the Vox Bulldog speaker and the Celestion Greenback has introduced a new amp line called Albion. After Steve left Vox he joined Jim Marshall and Ken Bran and was instrumental in designing some of Marshalls most famous amps also.Up until recently he designed a specially voiced speaker for Wharfedale to be used in Vox amps.
His new amps will be either tube or hybrid for guitar and will have a line of bass amps. The price range will no doubt have something for everyone ranging from about $160 to a little over $1,000 for the 100 W head.Although I haven't heard one yet I can imagine that they will be fabulous amps.I'd love to hear an amp that had the sparkle and chime of an AC30 and the raw massive roar of a 1959 plexi. To coin a phrase that would really be aural sex.I will get on of these amps supposing I have to sell a kidney since I'm a huge Marshall/Vox fanatic. You can find out more here: www.albionmi.co.uk

If he were serious, he'd have a proper website.

I think I'll stay with fender amps and guitars.

Thanks anyway for the shameless plug

Cant argue with staying with Fender... but I would say he is serious. He's paying about $30.00 per square foot at Namm. As far as his web sight, well this is a new thng, We'll just have to wait and see

Lets hope it's better than the G-dec. and as good as the new Fender Mustang amps. Seems like not much discussion on the G-DEC forum these days. I guess most have moved on to the Fender Mustang amps band wagon. Those Mustang owners really like their amps and swear by them.

The couple I tried sounded like a GDec with a better speaker. They didn't floor me and seem as disposable as the GDec too. They are cheap though for people who don't want to mess with tube amps.

supro,
I bought one of the mustang I's because I got it for 80$ new :)
It is small, lite, very reprogrammable, plays well at low volumes and has a headphone out.

Definitely a disposable, use it in places I would not want to take my "good" amps or guitars.
And it is great for those 2am sessions when you can't sleep.

Would not want to try much serious work with it, no power and sometimes odd digital sounds come out.
There is also a short but noticable time lag when using the footswitch between when you stomp it and the amp gets around to making the preset changes.

Don't know how the new bigger mustang IV and V 150 watt stereo units fares
The original mustang I & II use some kind of custom fullrange speakers
The new III, IV and V use more traditional speakers for guitar amps.

I have a feeling the Mustangs are a "take 2" on Fenders try at all digital modeling amps and the gdec may be on its way out.

Back to the original thread.
Modeling amps are fun to fool with but,
I think I'll stay with fender classic tube amps for anything serious thanks :D

My GDec does the same thing. I don't understand where the "studio quality" effects come in. They must have forgot to put them in mine LOL. There are tons of digital artifacts especially through the headphones.

I think you're right about phasing out the GDec. I always regret not getting the Line 6 Spider Jam instead. I do the same thing bring it to bad places to jam. I would never bring it to a gig, not even a coffee house.

I've been starting to see more modeling amps (including the Mustangs) in various
classifieds for cheap - - they *are* "fun to foll with", I agree.

I'm willing to give Steve Grinrod the benefit of a doubt, other amp makers have outsourced their production to Asia(such as VHT and Egnater) and have produced good amps. With Grinrod's track record of having a hand in creating some of the best Vox and Marshall amps he may well have hit on a design that marries the best features of both as well with Grinrod's encyclopedic knowledge of what constitutes a great speaker these factors com tones in one amp.bined could result in a new amp that will be groundbreaking-time will tell.I wasn't giving it an unashamed plug but was merely stating that given Grinrod's past contributions to the amplifier market a new amp by him could prove to be a major success and breakthrough. I'm hoping that the new amp can produce the best of both worlds by combining the best of Marshall and Vox tones in one amp.
