Hi all. I have to replace a speaker in my deville 2x12 and i thought while i am at it, i'll change the whole aspect of it. I would love to get the thing sounding much more like a princeton reverb. Any ideas of what tubes/speakers to put in it?

The other thing i want to do is get the thing not to be so darn loud so quickly. Im sick of being told to turn down in clubs when im barely at 2. Can i lower the wattage? Run it off one Speaker?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you
:D

You figure that out and you'll have mastered the audio equivalent of alchemy!

Switching the amp's volume pot from an audio-taper to a linear-taper may help tame your volume issues.

I agree with Arjay 1,000%. You'd be better off just buying a used PRRI than sinking all kinds of money into the DeVille. Here's a little clue for everyone. You can play most small to medium sized clubs with a 20-25 watt amp and get some seriously great tone. The Princeton is a little hard to gig with stock unless you do what Arjay did and pump it through some great efficient speakers and a nice cab.

Arjay, why don't you post that fine Princeton example.

As you wish......

I've done some jams using this rig with another guitarist playing a Custom Vibrolux Reverb (2 x 10's, 40 watts) and a bassist with one of those new Acoustic stacks (4 x 10's, 1 x 15, 250 Behringer watts) and the 12-watt 2 x 12 "Dual Porch Weasel" kept up just fine. In fairness, this amp no longer sounds much like the original 1 x 10 Princeton incarnation -- sonically, it's closer to an original Pro Reverb. But I can dime it whenever the occasion suits me without fear of blowing plaster off of a saloon's ceiling
