To get the right amount of reverb for my taste, I put the knob somewhere between 1 and 2. I can hear the difference between 1 (off), 1.25, 1.5, 1.75 and 2. 3 is surf music levels. 5 and up is crazy.

Note: the Princeton RI reverb knob does not go below 1. 1=Off (there is no zero).

Is there a simple way to tame the reverb control, so it is more usable throughout the entire range of the control knob?

You might try changing the 100K linear-taper reverb pot to a 250K audio-taper to smooth out the "sweep" between '1' and '10'. Use caution since the front panel pots on the re-issue amps are no longer actually anchored to the front panel -- they're attached directly to the PCB.

Best of luck, HTH

You may try to replace your stock GT Reverb output tube V3 12AX7A with a JAN Phillips 5751. The stock GTs seem a little harsh and hot, this may give you a smoother knob response. The inherent quality of the reverb on these amps is 0 to 100, and in this case the knob at 5 = 100. They are very good and quiet (White Noise Ratio) amps none the less. Good Luck.

Thanks for the idea. I might try swapping out the 12ax7 with an AT7 or AU7 I've probably got lying around before I order the 5751.

Regards,
Clay

Keep in mind if you change V3, you will be changing your driver into the split load inverter to the power amp. V3 is the reverb recovery and the driver into the p/i.
