My '94 Blues Deluxe has started switching channels on it's own and cutting out all together at times. It has new tubes, and when I plug into the pre-amp in, it still cuts out.Is anyone familiar with this problem, and the fix?

Hi bluesfreak704,

It is almost certainly poor solder joints around the 5 watt resistors in the power supply. Probably other joints are bad and should be checked too, on all circuit boards. The main circuit board must be pulled to repair the joints. It would take a couple of hours for a good tech to disassemble and repair the joints.

Check out this site about the HRd amps, it applies to the BDlx also.

I had the exact same problem with my 94'. My local tech could not figure out the issue and sent it to Fender. I have not had any issues since I got it back over a year ago. Unfortunately I can't help you with the details, but have no fear, there is a cure.

Thanks a bunch for the info and your experience. My local tech will be getting a visit from me shortly! I had supected it was the soldering joints and time will tell if this is the problem. At least I'll be able to point the tech in the right direction.Once again, thanks!!!

+1 on the 5 watt power supply resistors. They cause a multitude of problems including scorching the board and damaging the traces and random channel switching. If that's the culprit, I'd recommend getting new resistors and either heat sink them or mount them off the board about 1/8" for air flow.

Very cool! I have a 63 Supro Martinique. It's a great sounding guitar.
