I just received my new Fender SuperSonic 60 watt combo Blonde/Oxbloode and it's an amp that Leo would be proud of.

One problem - the Chrome and tailed Fender Logo plate is missing off the front panel. Anyone else notice this?

It should be at the left side (when you are in front of), return the amp to the dealer, the 7ender quality dpt shall be informed, get one with the logo. 8) 8) 8)

What is that lap steel stringer beside the amp (to the left)?

CBS/FMI did not fire Forrest White.

Mr. White (to his credit) resigned.

It's a 1948 Rickenbacker lap steel. The headstock cover plate is missing as is the original pickup. I'm not sure what the pick up is but it's very old and produces tones one would expect from this grand ol' lady.

The S6 has massive tone, clean or dirty.

Correct, Mr White did resign. Forest refused to sign off on Paul Sprangers Solid State amplifiers and the Fender transistor organ. He believed they were sub standard. He is quoted as saying 'they did not deserve the FENDER name'. He also knew the amps could not be serviced or repaired easily, something gigging musicians rely on.

Stan Crompton, Don Randall's right hand man forced Forest's hand by telling him to sign off or Forest would be replaced. Forest chose to (reluctantly ) leave and that's exactly what he did at the end of that day.

Needles to say, the transistor amps failed and Fender got most of them sent back. It was a disaster in 2 ways for the new CBS Fender. They released a dud series of amps and in the mix, lost their most loyal (if not difficult at times) senior manager.

And they laid a proverbial egg with the "Contemptible" electric organ.

(in professional hockey, I think that's known as a "hat trick")

1948!!! It looks great! What kind of tunings have you been using with it? You
probably know the history of Leo Fender and lap steels/amps etc?

I had it for nearly 3 years and needed some work done on it. Terry Dean and Gary Carruthers got the old lady back into shape (Terry Deans Guitar Shop, in Keilor, Melbourne) about 6 months ago and I've been playing it almost non stop.

Tunings? I've been mainly playing in various G and D tunings. I'll probably get another lap steel in time tune it to E or F#. I like the '6th' tunings but what I've seen, a pedal steel is needed to get the best out of those tunings.

Great news. Just spoke with Heath Blows from Fender Australia and Fender are going to send a new logo plate and organise for a local authorised repair station to install it. Great service. :D

I had a problem with loud 'banging' noises pounding through the speaker of my 60w supersonic combo. Took it to amp guru Tim Evans who found a wire had not been soldered during assembly. This wire must have come loose causing the loud banging sounds. He fixed it quick enough and now my SS is back to normal. Really loving this amp.

this cracks me up....my evil stepmother who once dated Spade Cooley's steel man in Sacto gave her a black rick and i found it under her bed but being a freaking manic electronics nerd wannabe at the ripe age of 12 i learned steel guitar rag on it from an obscure Oahu sheet music (while lusting for a sho bud) and i decided the GREAT sounding horseshoe pick up could be replaced with one from my St George strat copy (this was in the 60's when dirt was being designed) needless to say when all done and AFTER attempting to sand off the black ebony finish ....my butt was removed for a special beating and handed back to me raw....it did sound great though a twin and a standel custom 15 before the dreaded rollo mod...lessen learned (sort of). And i was accused of taking the finish of a fine piano bench belonging to a friends mom....merely by sitting on it...i drank a ton of Coca colas..then - eh Chuckles????
