I recently purchased a used Hot Rod Deluxe guitar amp. I can't get the footswitch to work. I have tried replacing it and either it switches from clean to dirty or from drive to more drive but never using all three channels. I have tried everything that I can think of, including using a speaker cable to hook it up like the manual recommends. I have changed the settings on the amp all to no avail. All three channels work on the amp without the footswitch hooked up I just can't get a factory footswitch to work. I have tried 2 different switches and neither one works, any suggestions? I would really like to be able to change channels with the footswitch so any help would be apprceiated.

Hi Venturesfan,

Please forgive me, I don't understand what you mean. :? You can't have "all three" settings at the same time. The "Clean" is one channel, and the "Drive" and "More Drive" are both in the other channel (2 channels total), you can only have one channel or the other at one time. Do you have the proper two button foot switch that comes with the amp? I have a '98 HRDlx, the foot switch part number is 050419 (the part number might be different for the MIM amps).

Here is some great info about the HRDlx.

I guess what I am trying to say is that i should be able to play on the clean channel, switch to the drive channel and then switch to the "more drive" channel and I can't. I can only play on the "drive" and "more drive" channel. I don't have the clean channel at all with my foot switch plugge in. I can only get my clean channel with the foot switch unplugged. If that makes any sense.

If the channel switch on you amp allowing to switch from clean to drive, there is no issue in the electronics within the amp because the switch from clean to drive is directly connected on the footswitch jack. Let's investigate on the footswich, as Shimmilou said, are you sure you use the right footswitch ?

OK, that makes sense, thanks. To me, it really sounds like the foot switch isn't the right one for that amp, or the foot switch isn't working. Does your foot switch look like this one? (picture below) You can download the schematic and check your foot switch circuit to verify it's operation (link below). If the foot switch is the right one, and you've verified that it works, my next thought would be a problem with the jack on the amp. Check to see if the threads are stripped, and/or the jack is loose. It is possible that the jack is damaged, or the solder joints are broken on the circuit board. To repair the solder joints, or to replace the jack, would require removing the circuit board. I really suspect the wrong foot switch though.

Man that stinks Tissan! :( Maybe you could contact the moderator, using your new name, and get your rank back to what you had before? I wish that I could help somehow. But, I'm glad that you are still here at least. :)
