The Princeton RI takes an 8 ohm load. Can I replace the 8-ohm speaker with a 16-ohm speaker and still not put an undue strain on the Princeton's OT or power circuit?

Princeton RI (65W) is designed for 8 Ohms, you will loose power.

Tissan is right, the amp will not produce the full power with 16 ohms, but it will work fine and cause no harm. Typically with a tube amp you want to match the impedance of amp and speaker for best operation, but you can use a different impedance speaker with no worries. I have a C600 amp that is 4 ohms, and I have used it with 8 ohm and 16 ohm speakers with no problem, and it actually sounded better with the 8 ohm speaker. :)

As has been stated the 16 ohm speaker will not harm your amp but it will not be as loud. Maybe that's a good thing? One thing though: it's definitely discouraged to do it the other way around. Don't use a 4 ohm speaker (or lower) on an amp designed for an 8 ohm load.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
