I recently bought a used 2004 Fender 65' twin reverb reissue. The amp sounds beautiful, but i've only had it for 2 weeks and when i turn the volume up to around 4 the sound cuts out every time i hit a chord hard. I know it shouldn't be breaking up at that volume and thats not what a normal break up sounds like. Can some one help me please
Thanks

Are these symptoms present on both channels?

I just tried the vibrato channel its too late to try the other channel now but i would assume so. I can try in the morning though to see if it does. Do you think its a problem with the tubes or speakers?

Too soon to tell.

Take two Greenbacks and call me in the morning.

Seriously though, this may be a problem that's repairable at the "user" level -- you'll merely need to trouble-shoot your way through it.

Tomorrow, try to ascertain whether both channels are affected. That provides a starting point for follow-on diagnostics.

Ok so I think I figured it out! I played on both channels and it was cutting out I realized when on the first channel I could hear the spring reverb on the end of notes. I turned that down and couldn't hear it anymore. Then I saw that the vibrato was on 10 and the sound was to loud it was setting off the effects that weren't supposed to be on. New question now though. The amp seems to be breaking up slightly at 4 on chords and then past that its not clean anymore. Shouldn't a twin breakup higher than that?

The breakup of the amp will depend on the speakers, the power tubes, and the preamp tubes. You mentioned that its from about 94', so it is possible that the tubes may be near end of life if it was played heavily, which might account for early breakup. If the tubes have been replaced, then the type of power tubes and preamp tubes selected might allow the amp to break up sooner. The power tubes are rated for early, normal, and late breakup depending on the manufacturer. Also, are the speakers stock. If the speakers were replaced with lower wattage speakers you may be hearing speaker breakup as well.
On another note, are you hearing vibrato on vibrato channel with the footswitch plugged in? The reason I ask is because it should only work with the footswitch plugged in and engaged. If you have vibrato without the footswitch plugged in you may have a shorted footswitch jack. Good luck and hope this helps.

What type of pickup--humbucker or single coil? A Les Paul's pups will send an amp into breakup much sooner than a stock strat.
If you are using humbuckers, try turning the guitar down to 6 or so.

I play with a 2010 fender american stratocaster with EMG DG20 pickups (david gilmour model). The amp breaks up on the low E string at around 4 and when im on the neck/middle, neck pickups. the pedal was plugged in but the vibrato was not on when it was picking it up at the high volume.
