I've always liked the stock speaker's midsy sound. It made for a great bedroom volume clean sound. However it is a bummer when low notes fart out due to it's obvious inability to handle the low end. I changed it with an Eminence Ragin' Cajun and that solved the lacking lows problem. Definitely worth the ~60 bucks. Apparently the Eminence Copperhead is great too if you want more high end. The stock preamp tube crapped out after about 4 months and I put in a Sovtek which did noticeably balance out the tone more. (possibly just because the stock one was bad from the start.) Other than that, I wouldn't recommend putting any more money into it, and to start looking at Blues Jr's or the like.

Thanks fellas.. all the cute comments really weren't asked for, or warranted..
I never asked anyone for an opinion of taste. Read the question dudes. So, it's not a matter of what I didn't want to hear.. It was an opinion and an insinuation. Additionally, my reply was relative to a matter of respect and courtesy for others. I appreciate bantor and being humorred as much as the next guy. However, I don't care for chumps who have nothing better to do, and nothing nice to say. (Thousands of posts?? - gee you guys have a lot to do.... and with all that hair growing on your palms, it ain't from playin' your six string either)... .

Fistful, first of all welcome to the forum. You'll get a lot of really good info here from some very knowledgeable people. Also congratulations on your Super Champ XD. It is a very nice amp with a large following and is great as a lower priced hybrid amp. I think the point that many made is valid in that you probably need to let it get some "break in" time before you make any decision on changes. There are some really nice folks on this forum and while they may on occasion engage in some good natured humor, it isn't intended as personal. I think you'll find a wealth of info here, so I hope you stick around.

If I were you I'd keep the personal insults to yourself. No one attacked you personally. Another thing save the "dude" and "chump" thing for the younger folks who might appreciate it.
You might also want to read the rules of conduct. Talking about or having a comment about equipment and insulting members are two different matters altogether.

Maybe you should stop worrying about how many posts people have. There are many respected members who have way more posts than myself or Arjay combined. I doubt they have hair on their palms either. We've been members a pretty long time.

Hey supro!

Did we get all that hair on our palms from the thousands of professional gigs we've played over the last forty years?

A pity that this forum doesn't have an "ignore" function.

Stick a fork in me. I'm done with this......gentleman.

oh.. more comments from The Lawrence Welk Band.. yeah right.. You and your consorts' snide remarks are a "matter" of insult and are certainly directed. Furthermore, I appreciate your shallow attempt at providing input and forum instructions, but your approval of what I say, and how I say it, is of zero consequence to me, or anyone online. I also suggest you take a look into a general code of conduct as a person/s, not some forum-junkies with paper resumes.. Oh, and by the way, still, none of you guys can answer the question with some electrical inteligence. "Because I said so" holds no court here - sorry.. Maybe someone respectful who offers an objective and factual opinion will reply to my initial question.

Instead of welcoming someone new, TLWB took an opportunity to size up my question; my equipment; and my taste.. and, it was "insulting" to me, not my equipment. And, just because you're talking amongst yourselves, doesn't mean it doesn't count. In other words, perhaps, it might suggest maturity that you start a reply by saying welcome aboard, before attempting to talk smack.. No response is needed because it won't be read, or responded to. You lose ;)

ok ok ok, ive said it before and i'll say it again, I BRAKE FOR GEEZERS. lol

welcome to the new guys. please excuse the geezers. they have opinions on just about any question you ask and 90% of the time its based on experiences.
you will find this forum to be very open and honest, funny, and full of knowledge as a whole. you will love it here i promise you.
do keep in mind that on a writen text like these its very hard to sometimes tell the intent
behind the type. arjay and supro ment no harm in their replies i promise you.
both are great guys and full of my knowledge and experiences than you can imagine, a wealth of info between the two alone, and there are dozens you havent had the opportunity to meet yet. neither will ever steer you wrong i assure you.
the good thing about the geezers on here is that they have a wealth of knowledge about the old stuff, know a great deal about the new stuff, and they dont stay up late. lol
(sorry guy just pokin fun at ya)

as for your amp, hey they arent for everybody. thats the beauty of it all is there are so many choices out there and in all price ranges. i have a uhaul full of amps myself,
(not bragging) but im currently playing through a solidstate, battery powered, pignose.
why? because i choose to thats why, and dont give a dang about what folks think about it either lol. use what you have guys, it wont be your last amp i promise you that.
use what your pocket allows you to have at the moment.
for some guys, right now, a modeling amp fits the bill and keeps the pocket a little more full, and keeps the bills paid all the while allowing us to keep jammin.
right at my feet is a Line6 spider as we speak. i keep it at the computer desk at all times.
so use what you have and keep in to 10 as long as possible.
i dont know how to answer your questions above. i have it in my head but not in words lol. there isnt anything wrong with those hybrid amps either. marshall has made good bank on them for a long time now. some like them some dont. im middle of the road, some i like some i dont. hell, i still like my 80's solidstate peaveys better than i do most of the tube amps out these days overall. its because of my musical background that i like them.
solid reliable tanks thats what they are. they can take a beating.
my fav is one of my bandits. looks like it survived WWll and went 12 plus rounds with mike tyson in his prime, but it still fires up every time and screams bloody murder when i tell it too. not many tube amps would have survived the life this lil dude has. ive retired it as a
solid road worthy amp thats live a very good life and never once let me down. 25 plus yrs old. nope it aint a fender and it aint tube, but its mine ya know.
just enjoy yourselves guys and dont be to hard on the geezers. they mean well and dangitt, we love the ole farts.

Hey Way Cool.. thanks for the reply (L88 you too). I agree that inflection and sincerity are not something that can begin to qualify in a typed-written message in a chat-room. I was poking just as much fun at the Geezers, as they were seemingly attempting to prod at me. What they didn't realize, is that I'm not a youngster either. I have chops, material and the stones to back myself up, in a blind forum, or in the real world. I didn't mind being insulted as much as I had some fun sounding off. I certainly wasn't going to back-pedal.. Wink. Anyway, I would challenge anyone, including those fellas to sit with this amp for a few weeks and work with the dials (including the pick-ups and dials on your guitars). It really would surprise you.

So, as for my AMP, I dig it - it's one of the best AMPS out there for it's designed and intended use (especially in it's price range - after all, it's a Fender). I got a great deal on it and it's being played in a 12 X 10 bedroom. It sounds very good, and for those who work with it, it will render plenty of great tones (I play an 86 Strat, and a PRS - lots of great tones with each). I'll probably will eventually run it through a 2 x12 cab for more presence.

i think most of us that grew up in the 70's and 80's remember them best as.........

ok i see where your getting at about playing with amp and guitar dials for any length of time. those two will join the pulpit on that one themselves.
its advice often preached when folks start talkin about modding guitars and amps to get different tones. good advice at that.
both supro and i own a egnator rebel20. here is an amp that if you set down with it for about 10 minutes and judge it, yourve cheated yourself on the better qualities of the amp. there is just no way you can experience even a taste of this amp and its possible settings in anything under 30minutes. it takes a good hour to run throught it on a test drive. supro talked on this amp for months. i went and tried it out 10 times and each time was a different experience. i was confussed. how could this thing sound so different everytime i played with it? well i set down with it again and really payed attention and gave it some quality one on one. well a week later it was under the xmas tree.
now i have joined the "play with the damn knobs" club. i didnt understand that theory
at all, "play with the knobs" geez, their knobs and can only do so much. well yes and no.
i learned that you dont really know an amp and guitar setup until you really play with the knobs lol. so many different tones can be found when one really sets down and runs the gambit. i use to think that if i couldnt get to know the amp/guitar combo in 10 minutes then something had to go. my Egnator experience taught me something new.
i use to roadie for a country group when i was a kid. their guitar player had some of the finest guitars a fella could be lucky enough to own. he has this guitar that didnt ride in the trailer with everything else. he carried that thing in and out of the gigs himself.
it was an old sears POS guitar. seriously. thing is, it was pleasing to him in everyway.
night after night he would squeek around on that thing and really get your attention with it too. sure he modded it to his likes but i bet the dang thing didnt cost $100 when his backup guitars were worth a fortune. it all boils down to personal tastes.

I did own one for about 1 yr. I did like the clean channel very much. The effects not so much even after playin with it. My suggestion would be to remove the chassie and install it in a larger cab with a 12in speaker.
