pickups, the gain from the drive channels is increasing the noise. rule of thumb with distortion channels or pedals....noise in more noise out. distortion is an increase in volume(gain) to the point the amp clips. tube amps use power and pre-amp tubes to do this. solidstate amps use diodes and op-amp chips and transisters to do it. because it's solid state doesn't mean its quiet. remember it's an amplifier and that is what it does.

Check your ground, fluorescent lights near by and cable. The problem may not be in the amp itself.

I have this amp and love it for it's durability, "bang for the buck" and the clean and reverb sounds. The "Drive", and even more so "More Drive" sounds are noisy. Even noisier than most solid-state's.

Follow the other suggestions if you really want to use them, (check outlet ground, nearby electrical equipment/lights, add shielding, adjust pickup heights, use the best cables you can afford). Stand away from the amp as well, not right on top of it. Doing all that will reduce the noise (though I find "More Drive" is just unusable. Even if it wasn't noisy, it just doesn't sound that good.)

When all that's done, you might be able to use the "Drive" setting but I'd recommend you use outboard effects instead. I knew this when I bought mine and still consider it an excellent purchase. I don't believe there is a better "workhorse" amp out there in the price point. It pushes some serious volume, delivers the classic Fender clean and reverb sounds and, if it slips and you drop it when putting it in the trunk of your car, it still works. If you google around for reviews, you'll find it's a very common issue.

BTW - it must be that I'm using Chrome. My profile is supposed to say "Semi-Pro". Won't let me upload a pic either. After 40 years of playing, 30 of them playing out and over 1000 shows, I think "Semi-Pro" is more accurate.

i have a 212R and so does my mate although in both cases i replaced the power kettle plug before i even switched it on... gorunding the amp properly and standing away from the amp helps... also turn your trebble down on the drive channel... i have no hastles with exess noise on mine other than the slight hum that you get on any amp when you running it hard... if everything is grounded properly there shouldnt be any massive noise coming from the amp when its on but you not playing through it...
