hi
since yesterday i had a problem on my fender twin reverb reissue. when the footswitch is plugged the reverb don't work anymore and when i unplug the footswitch and i turn on the reverb knob there is a terrible noise .
i checked all the preamp and power amp tubes. the cable of the reverb tank, the wires in the reverb tank, the springs. everything is ok
and the tremolo work very well.
any suggestion?

Replace V3 and V4 (respectively a 12AT7 and a 12AX7) with known good tubes and observe the result.

What kind of noise ? A buzz or a hum ? Did you take the chassis out and check the connection ?

I suspect cold solder joints somewhere on the pins of the V3 and/or V4 tube sockets, or components within the reverb driver/recovery circuit itself.

Sounds like maybe a broken wire in the tank.

tomorrow i'll check for the chassis and the solder joints .
where i can find the reverb driver circuit?

yesterday when i checked the reverb tank i suspected the ground output wire, i changed its solder but nothing changed . also when i push on the output cable the noise is increasing but not disappearing i tested the cable and changed it with another rca and nothing changed. should i change the ground output wire (the black one?)?

lelahel that really sounds like a connection problem in the tank itself, or the wires to it. When you push on a wire and the noise changes, that would indicate a problem right where you are pushing. And the black wire isn't a ground, one RCA cable is an input to the tank, and the other is an output from the tank. Each cable has ground and signal wires.

i mean when i push on the output rca cable the noise increase.
i changed the solder inside the tank in the black wire of the output channel. and nothing happened. maybe should i check for the white wire?

Yeah, check both wires, but wherever you are pushing and hearing the increase in noise, is where I suspect the problem could be, possibly the ground connection. It could be a connector inside the tank, especially if you have the push on connectors, sometimes they are weak and come loose. And I agree with Retroverbial, it is always a good idea to check your solder joints on the circuit boards. :)

If you have another amp with a Reverb tank plug it in and see if it has the same problem then you can eliminate the tank and just focus on the board. It seems like it maybe bad Solder joints like Retroverbial said

Hi Lelahel, yes you can substitute the other tank for a test. But the impedance will not be the same as your Twin, so the sound will be different. If the tank is at fault, the buzz should be gone with the Stage 112 tank hooked-up. Just a note; do not play the amp( the vibrato channel) without a reverb tank ! The reverb section is a small amplifier and requires an output load-the tank and following circuit to keep the reverb transformer from burning out. IMO It seems like a faulty ground or shield issue. Unfortunately this can happen at any of the places the folks have talked about. BTW is the noise similar the the buzz you might get from a guitar cable plugged into the amp, without a guitar and you place your fingers on the plug ? Art

yes the noise is similar to the buzz you might get from a guitar cable plugged into the amp, without a guitar and you place your fingers on the plug.

i plugged the stage 112 tank into the twin reverb and the buzz almost disapeared!
now i hear i very small buzz but i think that it's from the old tank because it is a very old amp from 1992 and it was never checked.

so the problem is from the tank , so what can i check to resolve the problem? i mean how to detect this noise problem from the wires tank?
