Hey gang,

I currently have both a Hot Rod Deluxe and a Blues Jr. and want to use both of them for larger gigs, running somewhat in stereo. I tried this once with a Morley A/B box and while the amps sounded fine, they were noisy as all get out when I wasn't playing. Come to think of it, they were pretty noisy when I kicked my OCD pedal on too. Can someone recommend a better quality A/B box I can use? I've heard good things about Radial products, but am open to suggestions. Thanks.

Hi jprzech,

I think that the noise is from the BJr. :( Whenever I pair it with any of my other amps, including HRDlx, C600 and a friends BJr, it is the most noise of anything that I've heard. Even both BJrs together were extremely noisy. I tried both an A/B switch and my POD stereo output with the same results. I thought that the jacks on the BJr were isolated from the chassis because the sleeves are plastic, but its possible that they are connected (I haven't looked). For the HRDlx I installed Switchcraft metal jacks and isolated them from the chassis, and the C600 has the metal jack mounted to the chassis, and I can use those amps together with nowhere near the noise as when I add the BJr to the mix. :?: Maybe you have, or could use, another amp to confirm this?

jprzech,
I also went the Morley A-B-Y box avenue and it works ok, but there is more noise than I cared for too. So I purchased a Voodoo Lab Amp Selector. You can run your guitar through up to four amps at once and it lets you individually dial in each of the amps output. It works great and you can dial out the noise. It is a bit pricey, but I felt it was worth the cost. Link: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=153512

I have a Morley A/B/C box and it works great. I've used it to play thru my DRRI and Carvin X-Amp together or singly. I also run A to the Normal and B to the Vibrato channel of my DRRI. I can set one channel vol higher and hit A or B or A and B for increased vol on a solo. C can still go to the Carvin.

Are both amps plugged in on the same A/C circuit? Are the amps on the same A/C circuit as the pedal power (if you're plugging into the wall)? If any one of the three is on another circuit, it creates a ground loop and you will hear a lot of noise in the form of buzzing.

I use one of two options to chain my amps - I use the stereo outs on my Boss DD6, or I run a cable from input #2 on the first amp, to input #1 on the second amp.

Here another way...
Try using the pan /stereo out on a boss delay or the left and right out on a boss chorus.. Im suer that other peddles have similar out puts. My drum machine has them as well. the only down side is that I cant disconnect or choose, once you set up

Just somthing to try

question
why do you want to run 2 amps at the same time anyways?

Multiple-amp rigs -- especially those with switch-on-the-fly signal-routing capability -- enable a variety of tones not generally possible with a single amp. As well, separating a pair of amps onstage permits a stereo or "pseudo-stereo" array, dependent upon the switching configuration. I often use a pair of amps for live venues, stage space permitting.

Break out your headphones and listen to the first three Led Zeppelin albums......they're a great example of what a stereo amp rig can do for live sound. I once drove a pair of Twin Reverbs with two extension cabs at an outdoor biker festival -- it sounded like World War Three!

That's a fine example although those effects were produced in a studio. They could easily be replicated live using multiple amps and multiple signal chains with effects.

I'm a big fan of tremolo and using a pair of trem-equipped Fenders produces some interesting effects. I often use these two in tandem on stage......

Image

With the blonde Spankmaster's tremolo set to slow pulse / moderate intensity and the brown Pro's switched off, the rig (with 6 to 8 feet of separation between the amps) makes a beautiful "Suzi Q" type vibe.

Decided to go with this one instead:

http://www.tonebone.com/bones-twincity.htm

Same company, pretty much the same features, a little less in the cash output department.
