Hi carsonb10,

I believe that it was 2001 for Mex amps. The info about where it was made may be on a label inside the amp, like the tube chart or other sticker, if it doesn't say on the outside writing on the back. Probably says where it was made on the box too.

the bassman came out in 1951/1952, what version of the 10 do you have, is it a reissue?

Your Bassman Ten was likely assembled in Fullerton.

FMI, while still a division of CBS, did start sub-contracting of circuit boards to Mexican plants in the late '70s but these finished sub-assemblies were then sent back to California where the amps were completed then shipped to retailers.

After reading this thread, I took a look at my HRD and couldn't find the word "mexico" anywhere on there. I may have overlooked it, but the only tag I saw was "Fender Musical Instruments (Somewhere), California." Mine also has a 60th anniversary label on it too. Any chance they made the 60th anniversary ones in the good ol' US of A?

Hi jprzech,

Your Hot Rod has the "Made in USA" or "Made in Mexico", on the label on the back of the amp, immediately underneath where it says "Fender Musical Instruments Corp, Corona CA U.S.A.". If it doesn't have "Made in ..." on the label, it's possibly been rubbed off. Not much reason to rub it off if it was U.S.A., I would think. ;) The Fender 60th ann was in 2006, which means it is Mexican as the HRds were made there starting in 2001.

I figured as much, no biggie. I don't really care where it was made anyway. Thanks for the answer though.

Actually, having made in Mexico is a good thing for some of the HRds. The BJr, for example, had a major revision to the circuit board that fixed the reverb circuit at the same time that they moved production to Mexico. Most everyone agrees that the MIM BJrs were much better than the earlier MIA were. Since moving production, Fender has made a number of improvements to the HRd series of amps, most notably the newer version III. I have three HRDs, two are MIM and are fine amps. Many times, the only difference in the MIM amps is the label, and possibly even some improvements, compared to their earlier MIA versions. They really didn't lose anything except the label. I think that the Mex factory is only about 40 miles away from the Am factory, so they shouldn't be that much different either way. :)

The Fender facility in Encenada is a very state of the art plant. (There are online tours on the web.) I don't think from a production standpoint the MIM amps suffer at all. In fact I believe even the US assembled amps cabinets are made in Encenada and shipped to Corona.

Mexicans have been making Fender amps since 1946.
