This may be old news but here it is nonetheless :D

While perusing the Internet, I found a post/thread where a Super Champ XD owner was able to purchase a custom built amp enclosure for his Super Champ XD that was designed specifically to house the amp section AND a 12" guitar speaker.

Having read a quite a few comments here in regards to the Super Champ XD and what speaker to buy to get more out of the SCXD or what extension cabinet one should use to get a bigger sound than with the stock 10" speaker, this seemed to be an important piece of information, at least for me.

I did e-mail them and they quoted $189 plus shipping and that stock colors are black, rough brown, black western, rough blond or smooth blond tolex with wheat, oxblood or silver/black grill cloth. (They also make a wide variety of different enclosures)

In any case, there you have it, except for the link.

There may be many other groups that do the same thing but this is the only one I have found today.

I love my little SCXD but I think this enclosure is going on my Santa List along with a 12" Celestion or 12" Eminence Wizard.....

I've hot-rodded several Fender combos by "re-arranging the furniture" to permit the use of a larger speaker (or speakers). You'll be amazed what these conversions are capable of -- I suspect the SCXD will fairly well roar.

BTW, think "Celestion Vintage 30". Trust me, you won't regret it.

I'm curious -- why go this route, rather than buy an external speaker cabinet and making your SCXD the head?

It's only one thing to carry, but, as a head, you can go with a 4x12 as long as the impedance matches. Personally, I like the head route. It minimizes tube rattle. I'd also go with a Celestion Vintage 30. Like Arjay said, you wont regret it.

Thanks for your comments.
I like the concept of a small easy to carry package.
Amp in one hand, guitar in another.

PS-Do you think 15 tube watts is enough to light up a 4X12 cab?

No problem as long as the load is correct. I pushed 2 Marshall 4x12 cabs with my Egnater 20 twenty watt amp just to see what it would sound like. I think one or two twelves would be great for your amp.

The volume from the pair of JBL K120s wired to this 12-watt Princeton is sufficient to put the amp on a par with that of a 40-watt Custom Vibrolux Reverb or a Vox AC30TB......

A Super Champ SD with a pair of say, Vintage 30's would sound just as beefy IMO.
