Greetings

You may remember me from such posts as why is this damn thing buzzing and how to play your guitar with a rabid weasel.

I had posted a while ago because my Cybertwin SE was giving off and unusual amount of Hum...........i had found my hum redux button was off......duh...............however there was still a lot of excess hum with my strat...............i had just recently put in custom 69 pups, i read a review talking about these pups are noisy but this is getting silly.

Amp still hums with my other strat and with my SG, however the hum is less with the SG.

NOW............i walking into the basement to find my strat knocked over and when i play my amp im getting a crackling sound on both clean and REALLY cracklin on the distortion.................also with the SG.........so i know the cracklin isnt the Strat..............i've also changed patch cords........same results

Any chance this would be a tube issue?..................any ideas folks?

Hi lestatfuse,

Yes crackling could be a tube issue. I would suspect a preamp tube or two is bad. Try changing them one at a time to see if you can find a faulty one. It could also be the solder joints are bad on the tube sockets or even the tube sockets themselves may need attention. But try replacing the preamp tubes first, using a new tube and try it in each position.

Yes preamp tubes need could be suspected, also bad solder in power supply section.

What I do;

1- Remove all preamp tubes ( 2 ?)
2- Power amp to ON : listen is theres crackling.
Crackling there ; this is not your tubes.
No crackling ; put one tube at time and begin test

3- If you have crackling with one tube in, it could be this tube to replace or trouble in parts around this tube

I hope this help

Which tubes did you replace, and what are they, preamp tubes, output tubes, 12AX7, 6L6? Are you sure that the tubes are pushed in all the way, seated firmly, and can you see the orange glow from each tube?

If the amp has ribbon connectors which it may have, I'd check them too. I've fixed many an amp just by reseating the ribbon connectors. Usually the Cybertwin's are pretty reliable from the people I know who have them.

The amp is a hybrid and only utilizes two 12AX7 preamp tubes. It has a solid state power section. No power tubes.

New tube were in correctly and there was the glow for each of them.

i put the old ones in an same thing, its like the sound is on mute.

I did notice, the volume knob would sporadically adjust itself, then it did the same thing with one of the echo settings.???????.............shows up on the screen and the knob moves.

Knobs moving by themselves? Hmmm, is there a funny smell in the room too? JK! Try turning it off and unplugging from the electricity for 15 minutes, then plug back in and try again. My home stereo will sometimes lock up like that after a static discharge and I'll have to unplug it to reset it. Just a thought.

Hi,
I was reading the problem you have and decided to join the forum because I also have problem's I like to discuss with Fender people.
I assume that you have a loop so try putting a regular guitar cord into the send and the other end into the return. I was having crackling in my VK, I checked the cord's, the tube's and it wasn't until I remembered reading somewhere to try this trick that the crackling went away. The knob's I imagine move because the amp sense's the lower volume so it adjust's the knob. Don't hold me to that. If this correct's your problem let me know. BTW you still have to clean your loop. Hope it help's if you haven't gotten it
corrected !
