I'd go with the Bassman all the way, but I'm a sucker for that old tweed mojo. Whichever sound you end up deciding on, they're both great amps.

+1

The SRRI brings reverb and tremolo into the mix. Plus its two channels have separate EQ controls. The 5F6-A has that whole "mojo thang" going for it.

It's a toss-up......heads you win, and tails you win.

Rawk on!

I've never played either. But I have played a real 1964 Super Reverb. Great tone with characteristic, metallic overtones. Gritty without going all-out distortion.

Yet, the bassman recordings i've heard have a wonderful overdrive crunch tone.
I would get both. :D

Both are great amps, but I can never get enough of that tweed Bassman tone. So my vote is for the Bassman and if you really need the verb get a pedal, but I find that a really nice tweed amp really doesn't need it.

Hi :) I had a Super and know have the Bassman. I had purchased the the Super used and had it repaired. It was a very good amp.Heavier than the Bassman. Because of the Reverb tank.

It was good,at times I had found it thin. But it was good with both my single coil guitars and my Gibsons. I had sold it and wished I had kept it.I would buy another one. It is realy clean and with a nice and deep reverb.Worked great with pedals. 4 X 10's are awsome with plenty of punch.

You get the clean of 65 deluxe and a Twin. But it is Mid powered so it can Overdrive with the best of them in a larger venue. It is loud.

I like twins to but I just don't need the power and the weight. Getting to old carrying the light Bassman around even.

But I must admit my favorite is the Bassman it is just awesome with that solid wood cabinet. People love the sound of it and the look of it.It is a keeper! My band mates love the sound of it.

When I need a little reverb I use a Holy Grail pedal which works fine for me.

Re-issuing the 5F6-A was one of the smartest corporate moves that FMIC ever made. They're brutally honest amps, especially the lacquered-tweed LTD edition with the adjustable bias control.

I would take the '59 Bassman over the RI Super any day. I bought a '59 Bassman RI in 1988 and it has been a great amp. It is not too heavy and works well at any volume or with any guitar. I also have a '64 Super Reverb that has the Danny Gatton treatment by Joe Barden. No doubt that it will destroy anything that comes down the pike. However, the new Twins and Supers are not that impressive at all. Brittle tone, weight, etc. If I were doing the A/B between those two amps, I would go for the Bassman. By the way, I used a 1963 Fender Bassman for many years when I was in the United States Air Force Band. There is no better amp...

The '63 Bassman bears no resemblance cosmetically OR sonically to a 5F6-A.

I'd go for the Bassman....but I already have a DRRI so that base is covered.
Though at 45 Watts and 53 lbs...it ain't no bedroom amp!

I would go for the Bassman.

As far as the SRRI, do those still emphasize the low "E" string more than the other 5 like the Supers (and possible Concerts) of the 60's?

Nothing wrong with the SRRI. It's just different. A lot cleaner and tighter than the Bassman. They both have their place. It just depends on the type of music you play. The Bassman is a great Blues and Rockabilly amp. Pair up a nice old Gretsch and Bassman and you'll see what I mean. Put a Tele in front of a Super and you really got something too.
