What have the experiences been like with the Mark III Hot Rod series?

They haven't been on the market too long -- I think the jury's still out.

From what I've seen, some of the reliability issues *may* have been addressed.

Time will tell, I reckon.

I like it a lot. The only change I would make to the amp would be to lower the wattage. I like the cranked sound of it quite a bit, and a built-in attenuator feature or lower-power setting would make it even better, IMO.

Jeff Beck uses a lot of amps. He has an old original Tweed Champ that he recorded most of his new CD with. JB probably has many too just in case something goes wrong. It's not really a smaller version of the HRDlx. EL84 power tubes can get pretty aggressive sounding and are not as clean sounding as 6L6 power tubes. They do have a certain "sparkle". My Egnater runs both EL84 ans 6V6 power tubes and the difference is noticeably different.

The jury is still out as Arjay says. One friend of mine had one and didn't really like it as much as old one. Another cohort of mine had one that went belly up in less than a month. Then another guy I jam with has had no issues at all with his Pro Jr III and loves it. Go figure. Seems to me to be more of thee same ol same. Just try one out and see how it works out for you. If it doesn't take it back before the return policy runs out.

I agree with 63supro, the PJr isn't really known for clean sound by any stretch. I have read about a few, in these forums, that have complained about the new version III being even noisier than the previous versions which were known to be noisy.

If you want a lower powered version of your HRDlx, maybe try some 6V6 output tubes in place of the 6L6 that are in your HRDlx now (definitely set the bias lower before changing, and set the bias properly for those tubes. The 6V6 will definitely lower your output power, and they might even improve the sound of the drive channel, but I haven't tried them....even though I'm seriously considering the change to see what kind of sound they give in this amp.
