Write your experiences when you've had your amp so loud jamming by yourself and your ears are ringing afterward. Unfortunately for me it's every day :P

Huh?!? What? The best one lately is my modded BJr with a new extension cabinet with a Celestion G12P80 speaker. The two matched very well when the BJr was cranked wide open, both volumes at 12. The tone was smooth, creamy overdrive, with sustain for days. It sounded so great that I played until my arm was numb, ears were ringing and my head was tingling, and only stopped when a preamp tube went microphonic....stopped long enough to change the tube, then played some more. :D Great sound, but not great for the ears.

My ears ring every day because I have Tinnitus from playing too loud for too many years. You're playing with fire, Tinnitus is no joke. PROTECT YOUR EARS. Or be a dumbass like me and have permanently damaged hearing.

+1000

In my case it was a combination of loud music as a kid and 22 years in the military -- exposure to small-arms fire, artillery barrages, mortar rounds, claymore mines, chicom B-40s, snake-and-nape air strikes, helicopter noise, you name it.

PROTECT YOUR HEARING!

I'm practice at my church where I keep one of my amps
I switch off depending on mood but
a couple weeks ago I was playing the marshall
on the jcm 800 setting and I kinda stood back
just to run her through the paces I HAD THE VOLUME ON
8 AND THE GAIN AT 8.5 . anyway I am jamming along
and about 20 feet away and I realize the church walls are shaking
and I my wife walks in to pick me up as I was by myself and she
is yelling Turn it down can't you hear that
apparently she could here me outside a half block away
so I hit another E chord (my favorite on a marshall)
and thats when I realize how crazy loud it was

My ears aren't injured yet, and I'm damned careful to make sure they don't end up that way. I'm lucky to have not injured them in my you playing too loud through a twin. I'd be quite upset if I lost the ability to hear the "natural music" around me as well as the stuff I play through my amp. I agree entirely with 63Supro and have met many guys who could now kick themselves.

I too have tinnitus. 24 hours a day of a high-pitched tone. I had molded (custom fitted) ear plugs made a few years back with 9 dB attenuators. ER-9s These are great, they are not noticeable from a distance, they just turn down the volume a bit, and they are comfortable. Visit your audiologist--a great investment. Wish I'd done this 35 years ago.

Well, I guess I have to "ring in " on this as well. For the young folk, tinnitus is no damn laughing matter.I also have ringing in my ears 24/7 and the specialists don't even know the exact cause and there is no cure. In fact, I have been told that one hears a slightly different tone than the other. Imagine that.

Once it shows up, you got it.

Wish someone had warned me. Turn it down a little, it ain't worth it.

In my young and crazy hard rocking days of the mid 70s even 100 Watts was barely enough I had a Traynor MK III that was rated at 120 W and a Peavey Deuce that was 130W and would put my guitar through both of them at the same time,my ears nearly bled.In the past 20 years I have gotten rid of my loud amps and now my loudest amp although 120 W is in reality 60W per channel stereo and can be cut down to only 1 W.I also invested in a good set of drummer's ear plugs-Vater Percussion that have little rubber baffles for varying degrees of volume deadening.I suggest you invest in a pair of them as I had started to get tinnitus and it was very unpleasant.Ringing ears are damaged ears.Keep your volumes down a musician's ears are as important as his hands-without the use of either you're out of the game.

Anyone who plays their amp when they are all alone so loudly that their ears are ringing afterwards is a moron.

If you need to play your amp loudly in a band situation, wear hearing protection.
