you only measured one tube, you should also have measured TP42

I was able to get with a quad matched set of JJ 6v6s tubes and found two were within .3 of each other, so I am sticking with those.

Updated numbers: house voltage was lower tonight, 119.7.
TP2 - 408
TP40 - 400
TP41 - 400
TP42 - 23.4
TP43 - 23.7

Thanks again for the support, now time to get back to playing!

That's what it's really all about! (contrary to the song "The Hokey Pokey" )

Thanks for the input to the thread. 8)

So I snapped a few pics. I located what Im assuming to be the bias pot (first image, blue disc, center) and I'm trying to follow your instructions to find out the plate voltage, etc.

I don't know if you can tell, but in the second image, which of the transformer wires (coming up through the bottom of the casing) do I need to check with the multi-meter?

short hijack  ...notice the array of connectors in there are TWO mini i mean mini fuses one for the +15 one for negative...try finding those fuses at radio shack on a gig night (soldered in also) i am in the process of modding a DRRI, SS22 and VK ...i have open amps everytwhere- i took and replaced those two fuses with internal open style fuse chassis monted holders...just incase one blows again. I also replaced both regulators (don't, i am a nerd i do stuff like that) and got a good solid 15V from 14.5 or so (negligeble) then i upped the 100uf's to 450 or 1000uf can't remebr right now and i bypassed the filters with .001 mini films i had laying around....the fuses i would worry about if you gig with the SS22. Great amp BTW.... hard to fix in a hurry but a NICE amp when biased and tube'd to taste  also modding the loop more on that later

Great thread.

I'm taking delivery of a new combo in about a week. I assume I should check the bias right away, or do you let it burn in for awhile first?

I'm sure I read here that the 6V6 GTs are 14 watt tubes?

I would normally set about 70%, that the best plan on these?

I have an AmpHead bias adaptor, so it's easy for me to read plate voltage and bias setting.

Hi dwagar,

Yes, check the bias right-away, a 6V6GT is 14 watt tube, and 70% would be a good maximum level. After you set the bias, let everything warm up for another ten minutes, check the bias again, play for awhile (maybe an hour) and check the bias again as it might drift a little, before buttoning everything back up.

Beauty of the supersonic and more of fender amps as they roll out is they put the 1 ohm resistor in the kathode circuit many times with a diode in parallel..this sure makes it much easier to set up to CLOSE "only the ear knows" on amps so equipped. I am home for the next few months so i am going though all my amps cuz...the wife saw MY bill (i pay my own bills) bill from the tubestore WTX??? "but baby" my 6V6's sit around 24-7ma with approx 410-15VDC on either the ss22 or DRRI plates (notice the ss22 power section is identical to the DRRI so DRRI mods can be put in place if wanted) and notice the high gain channel's voicing for you modders, look at the VK, tone master and others)..since my DRRI says fender on it i tend to keep the fender style mods and do British voicing on those type of amps. am messing with 5 amps at once at the moment but the DRRI is killing it (the supersonic 22 i am swapping in better opamps for the loop more on that i have lots of data taken to post later

yep bias those puppies i am using small bottle genelex 6V6 - later from the Isle of view

Thank you for this thread.

I wouldn't have thought to bias a brand new amp. Seriously, wouldn't have crossed my mind.

pV was 420, mA was 26. That's about 80%. Maybe 80% is just fine, but I've always been told to max it at 70%.

I rolled it back to 23mA, pV went up to 425, so I'm right around 70% now.

Thank you.

I wanted to give this thread a bump and a "Thank you" to all who contributed. I set the bias this evening on my Super-Sonic 22 and this thread was incredibly helpful. TP40 was at 20mV and I raised it to 23.6mV (plate voltage was 410). Really warmed up the tone.

Again, many thanks!
