Came across an interesting video for those contemplating a speaker swap

15 speaker dirvers played in the same cab using the same amp, and the same source patterns, first rhythem then lead..
Quite interesing hearing what each speaker does with it.

Which one strikes you fancy?
Interesting to see which ones come out most popular :)

You can't beat V30s!

I would've liked to have also heard JBL's D120F included in the "smack-down".

I kind of liked the Eminence Swamp thing along with the V30.
Of course I know very little about differing speakers. Just what I heard.

These are the ones I have in my main amp and they do what I need.
2-12" Fender® Special Design Ted Weber/Eminence®, 8 Ohm Speakers with Alnico Magnets.
Impedance: 4 Ohm

Arjay, Here's a kinda nice YouTube blurb (albeit crazy MP3 compession) of a DR loaded with JBL D120F. Does have that JBL-edge on the top, like my BF TR has (loaded with two D120F).

Thanks for posting that perterp! It's amazing what a difference in sound that different speakers can do to your overall sound!

My comment on the video was that Ted's stuff was strangely left out entirely.

I was curious about that as well.

That's because it's hard to beat Mr. Weber's speakers.

Weber speakers are not a "magic bullet" for every amp. Some work exceedingly well in certain rigs, others less so. I'm no fan of the California series at all -- they sound nothing like the JBL's they purport to emulate. The alnico types work great in tweed, brownface, and blackface combos while the silverfaces seem to favor the ceramics. I've heard few Webers that really sounded good in a bass-reflex enclosure. YMMV

Good point Arjay. That's why it's good to have a man like you here to help us out. I know very little about speaker applications for different sounds and amps!!
If I ever have a question about amps, speakers and such you and several other well known members are whom I'd consult!!

"Rebelsoul" is also an excellent source for Weber info, Hop. I think every amp he owns (four or five) is Weber-equipped.

A buddy of mine has a 6F2 Princeton with a Weber 10A125 in it......it's one of the sweetest-sounding brownfaces I've ever heard. I've been trying to con him out of it for five years now......

Yes, I know. I don't post much in this forum but I constantly read it for the quality information that you, Rebel, Art, and several others share with all of us. I have to say it's a learning experience. I admire y'all's collection of super amps. Keep up the good work as you would be surprised at how many of us you guys help!!

Just ordered a new Lopo Line 2X12 vertical slant cabinet on Black Friday. Tried to listen to as many speaker demos as I could find, including the referenced one. It's a very good demo IMO.

In the end, I couldn't decide between the V30 and the G12H and so I ordered one of each for the 2X12. Hope I didn't make a mistake :? It should arrive just prior to New Years. I've been using a 1X12 closed back with a Seventy80 which sounds pretty good, but hope that the new 2X12 is even better.

Isn't the comparison affected by the lousy computer speakers I'm listening through?
