Hi guys,

Title says it all really. Forget price, let's imagine that both of these amps cost the same and that the intended use is for practice/recording etc.

Just interested in your thoughts as I am looking at this decision myself. I could either buy the Class 5 out right, or, sell one of my current amps (which to be honest wouldn't really get much use anyway after I get the new one) and go for the 57 Champ.

What would you guys do?

Thanks for any advice

Russ :)

Imagining they are the same price the 57 Champ wins hands down. One of the best out there IMO.

I tried both...the 57 came home with me...the Class 5 was...boring in comparison!

The 57,s Ive tried all rattled like crazey. I bought a Class 5 and am very happy with it even though it rattles alittle also. There is a fix for it I just haven,t gotten around to it.

+1 Me too. The 57's I've tried buzzed like a can of bees. Also the tone gets way too compressed for my taste. They are two completly different sounding animals. Personally, I'd build a Tweed Champ before I plunked down that kind of coin for a one knob one trick pony. Even if they were the same price.

Tweeds are still big fun, but I'd opt for a 5e3 over either the Champ or the Class 5. It's a bit more versatile than a Tweed Champ.

Does Fender currently make a 5e3 amp in its production series?

There was no option for "Niether" so I didn't vote but the 57 Deluxe looks interesting.

FMIC offers a hand-wired 5E3 in its "custom amp shop" series.

Yep, It goes for around $2,000 retail. Or, build one yourself for between $600-800. Less if you can build the cabinet yourself, turn it into a head or have an old amp like a HRDlx and salvage the chassis and cab.
