I bought a vibro champ amp for 3 weeks, and use it on a church's stage.
We do our practice for 3 times, it sounds normal.

However, last sunday when we were in a Worship, it suddenly have some big noise, here is the situation:

1. the noise like Walkie-Talkie.
2. The noise did not last for very long time, about 5-10 sec, and then return to normal.
3. But the noise appear 4-5 times in 1 hour.
4. When the noise come out, even I unplug the jack/ turn the volume to zero/ or chang the voice, the noise didn't disappear.
5. When the noise come out, and I play with my Strat, the sound become distortion.

And I call the dealer in Hong Kong, the staff said it may be a cicruit jam for the amp. Is it normal?

Hi williamv611,

It could be someone using a walkie-talkie or CB or Ham radio somewhere nearby. I used to hear truck drivers talking on my amp when I lived near the Interstate.

Hi William, seems the guitar, guitar cord, ground line, or amp is acting like an antenna. Just a few questions: has this happened with your guitar and cord in other amps or the PA at church ? How does the amp sound at another location ? I'm guessing, that if the PA and mics don't have this problem, and the guitar and cable are quiet, then the amp will need some additional shielding. This is not much work. It probably only requires some shielding foil attached to the wooden panels around the amp chassis. We had this problem with the PA at our church years ago. We are next to a highway and the truck radios would come through the system. I'm an old truck driver, and it made me laugh. But we had to use frequency filters for a while, to keep the noise out of the system. Good Luck ! Art

Thx aclempoppi and shimmilou, but the same situation seems goes on,
Especially the 5 point,

5. When the noise come out, and I play with my Strat, the sound become distortion.

Do u really think it's the signal jam rather than the amp's problem??

Thx

William

It could be an amp problem, it could be just a radio interfering (happens sometimes), hard to tell without actually hearing it. With radio interference, it could even happen with the volume on the amp turned down. If it was the amp, I would think that turning the volume down would eliminate the noise. You could also try moving the amp to a new location. If it is still new, maybe you could exchange it for another and see if you still have the problem. Ask about the noise at your guitar shop, see if they have any solutions. It sounds like the same thing that happened to Hendrix (at Berkeley?), where the police radios came in through his amp during a show. :)

William, I have to ask you if the amp and guitar distort when you are not at church ? Signal jam, to me, would mean that something like electric motors, lighting fixtures, radios, or any electrical device is competing with your guitar signal. Do you have microphones at church ? If so, how does that system sound ? Art

I may be experiencing something similar with my BJr. I was just listening to a CD of Joe Satriani, Flying in a Blue Dream, in the living room this morning. I was inspired to play, so I went in the music room with the stereo still blasting away in the living room. When I started playing in the other room, I could here the music from the stereo coming through on my amp. The music would disappear when I switched the pickup selector switch to position 2 or 4 (noise canceling positions), and when I turned the guitar volume down. Also, I could move to the other side of the room, away from the stereo, and the music would go away. I have never experienced this before from a stereo. It seems in my case at least that the guitar is acting like the antenna. I'm sure that the grounds in the house are good, and the Strat and amp are both shielded. :?:
