Hey, Arjay, how much heavier to carry is that DRRI?

And, I have to admit it, that Strat really made me drool.

The stock DRRI weighs in at around 43 lbs. My "Spankmaster Reverb" tips the scales at exactly 53 lbs. Thus, a skosh taller and a little heavier......but oh-so-worth-it.

I even had my wife build a custom cover for it by adapting a standard Vibroking cover to fit.

That guitar was my first attempt at a custom-build Strat.

It's a Robert Cray hard tail body in 3TSB, with a CIJ '65 re-issue neck (limited edition, with flamed maple and ivory fretboard binding). The pickups are SCN's with S-1 switching and the gold bling is vintage-spec MIA Fender......

I love the touch of the gold hardware - just a little makes it very unique looking.

In 2004 when the limited edition 50th strats came out i bought both the deluxe with the SCN and s-1 and the AMSE with the Custom shop 54's in it.
I sold off the Deluxe and kept the AMSE and it is still my #1

However there are times i wish had given the SCN's a little more time to grow on me, A good friend did an SRV type Little wing at a gig and borrowed the deluxe from me that night, from the audience it sounded fantastic ! I guess at the time I was so hooked on the vintage tone I just couldn't fall for them.

One trick to getting decent tones from the SCN's is to set them lower from the strings than a traditional single-coil pickup, especially so with the neck position. They'll never deliver a true Strat "quack" like the 57/62s or the CS '54 set but they don't sound too bad, especially with the right amp, speaker(s), and EQ settings.

Does anyone build a DRRI case that will accommodate a 15? I have a standard Deluxe Reverb that I have plugged into a Weber cabinet with a Weber California Ceramic Fifteen in it, and I love the sweeter top end. I'm no wood worker, so I'd like to find a cabinet that would fit the DR head and the 15.

Something like this? :D

Got mine from JD Newell, very happy with it!

Larry Rodgers also makes great cabs.

You will be very happy with this upgrade to your DRRI!
