I have had a hr deluxe ,Blues Deluxe and blues jr.I know own a drri. There is really no comparison.Drri has more character with drippy reverb. It responds better to the picking attack too. This is just my opinion .Take it for what its worth.

I actually disagree with this - I've played the HRD III back to back with a 65 RI DRRI and didn't find the cleans on the DRRI to be any "better" than the HRDs - just different. The HRDs cleans sound bigger and bassier to me - the DRRI more vintage (obviously). I went HRD for several reasons including that I don't particularly like reverb or trem that much in an amp. YMMV of course.

The "difference" can best be quantified thus:

The DRRI is a Fender amp. Its AB763 circuit was designed and engineered by Leo himself and even the latest re-issue permutation adheres to the original layout save for some safety upgrades that have become standard in all modern gear.

The HRD is an FMIC amp. Fender in name only.

^Man the bias against the HRD in this forum is strong. How is the HRD a Fender amp in name only? Why? Because Leo F. didn't personally design it? The HRD was developed, designed, and produced in Fender facilities therefore it is a Fender thru and thru. It's just not a Vintage fender circuit.

+1 FMIC claims the HRD series is a "Classic Fender Tone" it isn't by any stretch of the imagination. The bias is real and well deserved. The HRD series amps are pretty much "landfill amps" in a fairly short while. Just my opinion. Probably Arjay would agree with me because we either own or have owned the original "reference point amps". Fender was always more than just a name or a factory, it was a sound that defined musical sound as many of us knew it.

Indeed.

Anything designed subsequent to the original blackface amps may be regarded as "FINO".

Be that as it may I've enjoyed my HRDlx III since getting it a couple of months ago. I purchased it primarily to use as a base for the many types of effects pedals I have. The clean channel on this amp is a great platform for pedals in that regard. I've spoken to many other HRD owners over at other forums that have gigged with them problem free for years so I think the "landfill amp" may apply to some, but certainly not anywhere near the majority of owners of this series of amps.

Prior to owning the HRD I had a 2003 Blues Junior that I purchased new - never had a single problem with it.

I like the sound of my HRDlx - it does what I want it to do and suits my needs (lots of clean headroom, effects loop, works well with pedals). Does that mean I don't think the DRRI is a great amp? Not at all - it's just not for me at this time.

I'm currently running my HRDLx with an Avatar 1X12 extension cab containing a Vintage 30 - excellent sounds coming out of this setup.

It depends on what their definition of a gigging musician is. Some folks gig once or twice a month and some gig 15 or more. I never knew anyone who gigged and owned a trouble free HRDlx including myself. Mine was banished to "The Closet" because of its being so unreliable until I finally sold it. I only gigged it about six times. I know an awful lot of musicians who had the same experience with them. The Deville's seemed to be a little less of a problem.

My first taste with Fender amps were the Super & Twin reverbs and that was in the late 60's :)
The first Fender amp I owned was one of those twins I bought used after renting it on weekends for what seemed like years.
I doubt I will ever forgive myself for selling it , you do what you got to do.
And now I really doubt I could shift one without help from at least 2 others.

For me that is "the" sound that is etched permanently into my calcified brain.
