I've heard of the Amplitrex.

But frankly, I don't have three grand laying around to buy test equipment.

The Hickoks and GI-issue TV-7s are adequate for most purposes.

Unless mebbe you're reconditioning a Saturn V booster's guidance system in preparation to send up an Apollo for a return to the moon.

Arjay, do you know of any really good Hickok aligners? Like only a handful in US, most are these old Ham radio dudes.

Amplitrex being offered for under a grand. Need to check it out first. Buyer said it comes with old Windows XP Pentium that has ports are set up to do graphs... But, you know how that goes. "What you see ain't necessarily what you get."

Thanks!

I sure don't. But somebody has to be doing PMEL calibration on test equipment. The military used to do their own but they closed down their labs years ago -- they send it all out now but I don't know where. My brother is an engineer with H-P and he says all the test equipment they sell now includes servicing, calibration, and upgrade agreements to be done in-house.

First time I heard about this tube tester : Amplitrex

I know about old tubes tester that most of them can't realy test your amplifier tubes. Your amp operate at high voltage and old tubes tester operate only a "low" voltage.

So unless your amp tubes is completely dead or short your old tube can't see if it is wrong, or weak

This is what my TV-7A/U can do......

3. Purpose and Use
Test Set Electron Tube TV-7A/U is a portable tube tester of the dynamic mutual
conductance type. It is used to test and to measure performance capabilities
and to determine rejection limits for electron tubes used in receivers, low-powered
transmitters, and many other electronic equipments. The following tests can be
made with Test Set Electron Tube TV-7A/U:

a. Continuity test (ballast tubes).
b. Dynamic mutual conductance test (amplifier tubes).
c. Emission test (rectifier tubes).
d. Gas test (amplifier tubes).
e. Noise test.
f. Panel lamp test.
g. Shorts test .

(quoted verbatim right out of the operator's field manual)

It is possible that this test tube is very good, but the description is too general and not specific enough in my view. The tubes used in guitar amps operate differently than hundreds of other tubes. Does this test tube into account? Impossible to know without making comparison test.
I have 4 tube testers and the description is similar. Is it publicity?

No "Test Equipment" repair outfits your way that can handle that?
Or is it a specialized piece?
