would this have an affect on amp/tubes?
I had the volume at Zero, Hoping I did not screw anything up?

Using the standby switch while powering up or shutting down will extend the service life of the tubes but failure to do so isn't likely to harm the amp itself.

Hey man, with all the years of late night gigs and impaired thinking, I've done it more than a couple of times.
Like Arjay said it will help the tubes to use the standby.....just try to get in the habit....but it ain'the end of the world.

Besides, dont most modern amps have a thing inside it where it lets the amp warm up before emitting any sound?

I left the standby switch on once with my twin by accident and the volume just steadily built up after a short while.

Actually the proper sequence is:

Power up - Power switch to on, wait maybe 10-30 seconds, then turn standby switch on.

Power down - Standby switch to off, wait maybe 10-30 seconds, then turn power switch off.

But as others have said, doing it wrong won't hurt the amp.

I always allow my amps three to five minutes to warm to operating temperature in standby mode prior to powering up and playing. When I'm done for the evening or the session, I let my amps cool down for a minimum of ten minutes in standby mode before shutting down and packing up. I generally get at least a decade's worth of service from my tubes -- often substantially longer.

In the best world, tubes ( the kathode) need to be warm BEFORE applied high voltage ( that's waht Standby Switch do, on play position) on tube.

Power tubes least longer if you do that

I turn the power on, set my pedals and guitar up then turn standby on. On shutdown, I turn standby off, unplug and put everything away before turning power off. Each takes several minutes. My earlier post was just what I had gathered from other posts on the subject as minimum times for those in a hurry.

You probably get maximum service life from your bottles too, Bill.

True, but considering that my entire JJ tubset from Eurotubes cost less than $75.00, I would have no qualms replacing them on an annual basis to maintain max performance. Or at least the 6L6GCs. :D

JJ's are pretty good glass, Bill.

I'm certain you'll get several years' of good service from them.

I know, but the engineer in me tells me to follow a Planned Maintenance Schedule (PMS).

That's a wise system.

I drag out my AN/TV-7A/U and check the glass in each of my amps every couple of years -- sooner for a particular amp if it's in heavy rotation.

Arjay, I have an old Hickok 605A tube tester that's plugging along. I think it needs adjustment & the only person to ever do a decent job, Chris Haedt, died a few years ago. Ever hear of the Amplitrex AT-1000? There's are offer for a supposedly good used one.

Thanks, for your input!
