my cyber champ doesn't produce any sound when first turned on. after about 5 minutes it starts working with no problems.if i'm playing guitar during the startup the guitar sound gradually comes through much like a tube amp if you play through it before the tubes are warmed up. if i turn off the amp after i play it for a while and turn it back on after a couple of minutes it starts up right away.this tells me it has to do with the amp being warmed up.being solid state it should not have to be warmed up. anyone had this problem? what should i do? please help as i am on tour in mexico and don't know where to have it looked at.

Hi mookie1,

I am not familiar with your amp, and I haven't seen the schematic, so I am just taking a shot in the dark. I could be way off, but it sounds like a thermistor going bad. I am not sure if your amp has one or not, but some SS amps have a "warm up" device called a thermistor, usually on the primary of the power transformer, to keep the inrush of current low when first turning on, a "soft-start" so-to-speak. The current through the thermistor is limited until it warms up. It should warm up very quickly, so 5 minutes would be way too long for a thermistor, unless it is going bad. Do you have access to the schematic? I couldn't find one on line, at least not for free. If you know of a link to the schematic, or if you have access to one let me know. :)

a friend down here in Mexico told me the humidity is so high that i should try putting a fan on it for 5 minutes then try turning it on, so i did it and it comes on almost immediately. His stereos and tv's have the same problem but i will check to see if the amp has a thermistor or not. thanks for the info.
