Hey folks,

So in transportation of my 2002 Fender HRD I broke off the "MASTER" knob at the shaft, and all attempts of quick repair were futile, rendering the need for replacement of the pot.

The pot itself is the drop-in type, and the value is B100k, which I am assuming means linear 100kohm. That's not tough, but I am having the darnedest time finding a place that has that exact replacement. Plenty of folks have the other pots, like log taper 250k pots and 25/50k pots for reverb/presence controls.

So, easy enough question...where should I find this 100k linear drop-in mini potentiometer for my HRD? Probably an easy answer, but I honestly have been searching for a few hours in vain.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Oops, forgot to mention...the pot I'm replacing and subsequently the knob involved is for a full round shaft, not a D shaft. I found D shaft pots all over the place but would rather find a perfect replacement. Worst case scenario is I move to another value (250k probably would suffice) or use the D shaft and a new knob.

Thanks!

Hi again mobaar,

The factory pot is a B (linear) taper according to the schematic, and is very touchy with only a small amount of usable range. Mine sounds about wide open at 2 or 3. This replacement pot is better than the factory pot as far as taper (link below). It is an A20 (audio taper), and will give better usable range on the pot. It does not have the mounting bracket of the original, and has a different mounting nut, but will solder to the board and mount to the chassis the same as the original. I have mine already, just haven't put it in, I don't really use the drive channel, so no hurry for me. :)

Ok looks good. Thanks.

What about the prospect of using the standard volume, 250k audio taper pot to replace the 100k linear? I have a couple lying around, since I bought a couple in order to replace Fender's original (linear) volume pot.

Honestly, I don't use the overdriven channel either, so it's no huge issue for me...but us gear fanatics, we HATE broken pots! :)

Actually the 250K sounds like a good idea too, that should work just fine. The only problem that I can think of is that using the higher value might affect the tone of the drive channel slightly, not that you could tell on the drive channel though. I have read that 250K and even 500K have been used for the same reason in these amps. As long as it is an audio taper, it should be an improvement over the linear taper that is there now. :)
