Just a note: 18awg filament wire is not necessary after the PI. 20awg will supply the current and will not tax the PT. Art

Great thread, can't wait for the results.

My first step was a couple of byoc pedals, one is done and working and another about half way. Great fun. Only a couple of burnt fingers, all part of the learning experience.

Maybe a couple of more pedals, seems addicting, and then an amp.

Which pedals?

I've finished a byoc large beaver (big muff ram's head) and working on a byoc OD2, a combined boost and TS808 in one. The beaver in front of a vht special 6 makes me smile. I can post some pic's in another thread if you're interested.

BYOC makes some great kits. I have a few and build them for other musicians too. I really like the British Blues Overdrive. I actually like it better than the Tube Screamer.

Not a lot to update folks, sorry about that, but I got the switches, pots, jewel light and fuse holder fitted ready for wiring.

I'll have more time to hit it a bit harder on the weekend.

That chassis looks pretty sturdy!
Nicely chromed too.

Thanks TTSC.

Just finished wiring for the Ground Buss and Tone/Volume pots.

I can give a quick tip here, soldering the back of pots can be tricky because they have usually have a film of some sort on them that doesn't like being soldered (solder won't stick) and also because they are large they act as a heat sink and suck all the heat from your soldering iron. Here's what works for me, I scoured a small area on the back of each pot with 400 Grit Wet/Dry paper to cut through the coating, then gave the area a wipe with Isopropanol Alcohol to really clean it and remove any trace of greasiness. Touch up the area with a Flux Pen. Then build a nice big blob of clean molten solder on your iron tip (A big blob gives you more heat mass) and plop that right onto the cleaned spot and hold it there to let the solder spread. That gives a good foundation to solder wires etc. to the back of the pot. Hope that info helps somebody.

Snowy, just a remark:
I see on the resistors mounted on the jacks that there are few flexibility loops on the axial-leads; The mechanical failure mode of such resistor is uncrimp the terminal on the carbon film. Nevertheless I don't believe that there is a mechanical constrains.

Nice work, day after day, soon it will be a pleasure to ear you, playing with the result of hours of making. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Hi Tissan,

You make a good point on the axial leads, when testing with a guitar cable I couldn't see any discernable flexing or movement in the assembly that may result in any mechanical stress to the resistors but it's definitely something I'll keep in mind, I guess time will tell.

With that said, overall, already this amp has a definite "built tougher to last" vibe about it that I'm liking a lot as I put it together.

I just know (fingers crossed) this thing is going to sound like Tweed Heaven and the building process has me bonding quite strongly with the amp already!

The amp comes with a nice compliment of JJ Tubes, (I've always liked JJ's wherever I've used them) It's interesting that as supplied, V1 is a 12AX7, I'm tempted to also grab 12AY7 (original spec for V1) and a 5751 so that I can do some swapping around.

And now with that also being said, before I get too far ahead of myself, let's see if it survives "Power Up" without smoke!!

Finished wiring the Rectifier tube socket and both Power tube sockets, also did the Standby switch wiring. Almost there now, Preamp tube socket wiring and Filament wiring next.

Got the Preamp tube sockets wired.

Almost on the home stretch now, with just the filament wiring, Power Switch and AC power cable to go!
