I am adding an ext cab to my 65 twin blonde reissue .
And wish to use the ext speaker jack to do so .
So according to everything i have read i must keep the load at 4ohms total .Therefore my plan is to replace the existing parallel wired 8ohm internal speakers with two 16ohm speakers and load the ext cab with 2 16ohm parallel wired speakers and plug cab into ext speaker jack .
Thus keeping the total nominal load on the tranny at 4ohms.
Is this a correct way to go about adding a 2x12 ext cab and using the ext speaker jack for cab and the internal speaker jack for internal speakers .
And keeping the load at 4ohms?

Hi thenugerocks,

You are correct, all 4 of the 16-ohm speakers in parallel will be 4-ohms. You could even use just 2 speakers at a time, internal or external, plugged into internal speaker output jack (8-ohm speaker load), if the schematic that I'm looking at is right. Let us know how it sounds. :)

ok but i dont know about just running the two 16ohm in parallel to one internal ext jack that would be 8ohm load on the tranny and everything ive read even manual & schematic states that is a 4 ohm min & max line
so? i dont get that it has two 8 ohm parallel wired speakers now to the internal jack making that 4 ohms correct so how if i change to 4 16 ohm speakers would i be able to just run 2 of them ?
any way it sounds like i can run 2 internal 16 ohm speakers and 2 ext cab 16 ohm speakers all wired in parallel safely and have a total load of 4 ohms on tranny which is what its spec calls for .
Thanks for the info

Yes, you can also safely run an 8-ohm load on 4-ohm amp. You are correct, 2 of the 16-ohm speakers wired parallel is 8-ohms. I use my HRDlx ext cab which is 8-ohms, with my C600 amp which is 4-ohm amp, it sounds great and is safe.

There may be a concern if you use 4-ohm speaker on 8-ohm amp, but an 8-ohm speaker(s) on a 4 ohm amp is cool. :)

+1

You'll be fine at 8 ohms. The amp will not develop its full 85-watt output but that's usually not an issue under most circumstances. It'll still be plenty loud.
