Greetings gentleman

I've recently gotten together with some friends to jam in my basement and have run into some issues
Im currently using a Cybertwin combo, along with a MIM Strat With fender C69's recently installed.

I am experiencing a sever buzzing when using settings with distortion and cant figure out what's causing it?

My Twin has never buzzed like that before and I have various other guitars, I know that the C69's are going to cause some buzzing…..and I don’t mind some…….but when I have the gain set to full and im wailing away and I can still hear the buzz on top of my playing to me that unacceptable.

To experiment I've also plugged in my Standard SG, and still received buzzing……….when im upstairs playing im buzz free.

What can be causing this?

I am currently using a Peavey amp for a PA for vocals, there is a large TV directly in our jam space but prior to using this corner of the basement I was on the other side of the house and experienced the same thing.

HELP!

I ending up turning my volume knob on the strat down to a 5 and cranked up the volume but that for me takes away to much of the distortion bite.

Thanks for any suggestions

Hi Lestatfuse.

First Let me know if your amp is connected on plug with earth (good earth/gound) connection. 8)

If it does have a good ground connection, are you using a surge protector/power strip with noise filters to protect your equipment and sound?

Also, have you tried other guitars...does it only hum with the Strat?

If only the Strat, have the wiring & shielding of the pickups and controls checked.

If any guitar, the TV could be an issue, even though it's on the other side of the house. The surge protector (if it's a good one) should help this. Also, you should try other guitar cables to see if that could be the cause. Narrowing down the culprit is the hardest part.

Good luck! :)

Bob

Right now its plugged into an extension chord I share with the Cybertwin foot controller and the plug for the cordless phone Doc………extension chord plugged into wall - If that’s what you meant by Good Earth Ground?..........sorry, not so smart aboot these things.

I had previously plugged it into a Surge protector bar and still received the buzz, but I also have the foot peddle in there, my Boss 864 recorder AND a power adaptor to run the recording mic into the recorder……..hmmmmmmmm………could that be it?

I did plug my SG in and got the buzz as well…….so im thinking it has to be something other then the amp or guitars?

Pretty sure its not the chords but I will check when I get home tonight.

Just to understand, the wall plug has got 2 holes (Phase and Nutral) and 1 metal pin (usually bigger) This is the gound "wire" that is connected to the earth. Is this the case ?

Does the extention chords has 3 wires ?

Does the buzz is present when your guitar is plugged without touching strings ?

Does it desapear when you touch the strings?

Have you got a chance to test another amp ?

To be honnest, I think it is a problem with gound connection;

You have to plug your amp to that kind of chord (the bigger round tap is the ground). If not you may be injured in case of accidental contact with earth. You really have to take care.

If it not the electrical chord the root cause even the wall plug, it could be a gound issue inside your amp or your guitar cable.
