I currently play through a Blues Deluxe reissue alternating between a Les Paul and a Strat. I love the amp, sounds amazing. My band is starting to gig around and I'd like a little more punch and clarity at higher volumes so I'm considering the 112 HRD extension cab and I was hoping someone here may have an opinion on whether the extension cab is worth it or if not, some suggestions about extension cabs.

Thanks.

Hi AHC528,

If you want punch, the HRd ext cab will give you a lot (kidney punching thump), not as good on the highs though. I had to take the back off of mine to get better highs, and it still has great low end, and a little less thump. In combination with the BDlx speaker it will sound more full and rich than the BDlx speaker by itself. The ext cab by itself, sounds great for really driven tones, real smooth and sustaining, and a little muted/warm for clean tones. It fits perfectly under my HRDlx.

The ext cab speaker in mine is the Celestion G12P80. I am toying with the idea of trying a different speaker, like the Eminence "Red, White and Blues". But, I'm going to at least wait for the speaker to break in first. All things considered, I would recommend the cab for your amp, which is nearly the same as mine. :)

One remark, even with an ext cab, you will not have more power but a sound that is more "air distributed". If you really want to play with more volume with the same sound, a second amp shall be considered as an option or at last a more powerfull amp. 8)

I own a BDRI w/ matching tweed ext. cab and like it very much. I agree with Shimmilou's experience with the HRDlx. There is definitely more bottom end thump and a fuller sound.

With the volume that is put out by the 40 watt BDRI (alone or with the ext. cab.) I can't imagine wanting a second amp in tandem, unless one also wants hearing loss....quickly!

You don't want hearing loss. Believe me, no fun at all.

Like RVM lead I also have the matching tweed two piece suit! Tons of oomph, sounds louder but isn't. Go for it!
