Hi All

I'm a complete newbie here. I recently bought myself a new Strat - an American Standard. It was a complete impulse buy - but I'm loving it. Until recently, I've not touched a guitar for 20 years, and back then I only had about three chords in my repertoire, so I've got a lot of learning to do!

Anyway, I'm looking for a practice amp, something to use for Bedroom practice, but also something that I could use outside the house in a few years time. As much as I would love a valve amp like the DRRI and a bunch of pedals, I think my best way forward is to get a solid state amp and a multi-effects unit like the Line 6 POD X3.

My question is, will the Frontman 25R be useable at lower volume levels? Or should I be looking at a smaller unit like the 15R?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

The 25R is an excellent little SS amp. I've had mine for 5 years no problems. It has a pretty decent spring reverb, headphone jack, stereo jacks you could plug your ipod, or portable CD player into and a nice drive channel. For a budget bedroom amp it's a winner with me.
That Pod X3 with this amp just might be a fun ticket for what you want to do in the near term. Personally, I'd be looking at the POD X3 Pro rack over the red kidney pedal.

a 25 watt amp should be great for what you want. i just bought a used stage 1oo amp. it has, obviously 100 watts of power. if i plug in an extension cab, it goes to 160.
in the 2 weeks i have had it, the volume control has not gone above 1. i lso have a 50 watt vox amp that hardly went up pas about the 2 or 3 level.
25 watts should be fine. i also am a fan of fender solid state amps.
good luck, and i'm glad you're back playing again

The Frontman 25R is a nice little solid state amp and for $100 it's a pretty good value. You might also want to check out the new Mustang amps which are also inexpensive but have several more features. I'm a tube guy but I had a chance to try a Mustang II and was very impressed. Certainly more tonal options than the Frontman. Mustang I is also $100 and the II is $200, but has 40w and 12" speaker.

Frontman 15R can also be considered for a bedroom. :)
