Here are the pictures of my speaker retrofit.
At bottom is an Audio Sample

1
Image
In order to remove the speaker it is advised that the amplifier be unplugged, lay amp face down on it's speaker grill side. Remove back panel, power tubes removed, reverb tank removed, chassis screws removed, chassis removed. Once done we are now ready to remove the speaker.

2
Image
With the cover, amp and reverb tank removed, the speaker is now ready for removal. All that holds the speaker are 4 phillips screws. Now would also be a good time to remove the speaker leads. Note that the (+) positive lead is color coded. If not marked on your amp be sure to mark it.

3
Image
This is the center section of the Celestion Gold driver. Most commercial images do not show this side. It is provided for those who have not seen it and wondered what it looked like

4
Image
Celestion Gold as installed. Note: Notice that the speaker's spade connectors are facing up opposed to the side in the second picture illustrating the OEM speaker's orientation. I simply cut the tie which allowed the speaker cable to extend so that it can reach the primary speaker jack in the amp.

Thank you, stratele52. :)
Yes it does, indeed, sound fantastic! :D
I understand that these speakers get better with time and use.
I also record it through a mic and now a mackie mixer.
I bought the amp orginally for use with my classical but my AM ST strat
and Gibson Les Paul R6 both sound excellent through it.
For the Classical:
I use an LR Baggs Para DI, an MXR 10 band EQ when I play the classical.
I have something to the tune of 90x EQ power by which I mean I can really dial in the frequencies. I'm hearing things I didn't hear before. and
I can get better control of some treble frequencies that have been harsh.
I am using a pair of Dean Markley Artist tranducers fed into a blend pot.
I can choose to augment the treble or bass registers or balance the both sections.
Future plans call for an undersaddle on the classical with a second blend pot so I can tweak the balance between string/saddle signal and soundboard signal.
My setup is really coming along nicely. I really love blending the mic'd amp source and mic'd guitar source through the mixer.
It really adds a new dimension to what I am hearing through the headphones.
:D

Just so I don't feel forgotten... <------ I don't like the new shocked smiley

btw, the reason I bumped this thread back to the top is because I was too lazy to look at the tubes in this amp. I couldn't remember what color they were. Anyone know what yellow translates in the GT color code?

I understand that Fender owns GT now, and I was curious if these were relabled and if so what range it might have been in the GT catalog.
Maybe I am misunderstanding something I read
Refer to "GT Rating System" here http://www.guitaramplifierblueprinting. ... tubes.html

I forget where I saw it, but I "think" the Hot Rod Deluxe versions use those empty slots.
When I saw that plus an image of the HRD board, I thought about how the HRD's had been troublesome (think 63supro) whereas the BDRI didn't quite have the same reputation.

Congrats on the new Alnico Gold. What will you do with the old speaker?

Not sure as yet. I thought about building an isolation cab for it or a home made leslie cab or some engenius(sp?) combination of both.

Twinhit - so glad you like your Gold: I installed one in my DRRI and it now oozes tone as a consequence.

It was expensive, but SOOO good.
