Thanks guys. Has anyone checked the link to the calculator I posted? I just want to know if that thing is correct, b/c it's what I've been using and I've been entering the right numbers into it.

Yes, I am familiar with that calculator. It is basically correct. I say basically because as I explained above, it uses the Fender test point which will give you a reading which is correct within +/- 5% as opposed to using a bias probe which typically will measure within +/- 1%.

The nice thing about the Weber bias tables that I posted above is that if you use a bias probe that measures individual cathode current (like mine), the "Calculate Plate Dissipation Based On Plate Voltage And Cathode Current Readings" table will convert the cathode current that you entered into an approximate plate current. Given the choice, I find the Weber tables to be more accurate and informative.

If you are serious about making these measurements, you should invest in a bias probe. They are not expensive. Do a search in this forum for posts by me on my (mis)adventures in biasing my BDRI. They are quite "illuminating" as shimmilou and others will attest.

I thought you acquitted yourself quite well, Bill.

With your formal training and experience, I rate you as a first-class tech by anybody's yardstick.

I know that we have had our differences, but wow! Thanks man. I have to say though, that I've learned more here than in 4 years of college. If one believes in learning from their mistakes, I'm an expert in a lot of things.

I never let a mere difference of opinion diminish my respect for true talent and competency, Bill.

Hello bluesky636,

I just orderd the same bias probe as yours, The amp-head Dual Bias tester MPD

Thank's for the link

Miy bias probe, home made one, was not reliable and no plate voltage test point on it

You're welcome. I'm not the only one, though. :)
