Personally I think that relicing is the most assine useless fad going. Just look at 2 original '65 blackface Twins one is mint and one although working perfectly has the Tolex and grille shredded which one would you pick or more to the point, which would be worth more?Thank God none of this relicing B.S. was going on in the days Antonio Stradivari was making his fabulous instruments-there wouldn't be a bloody thing left.

I agree,

What is the purpose of relic? I don't get it.

The real vintage amps' value is in it's appearence and sound. The less used it looks and the better it was cared for (i.e., the condition), the higher it's value. Unless, it was abused by Hendrix or SRV.

well, there's some difference in the definition of "value is in it's appearence and sound"....yeah a "closet classic" amp that was put back and hardly used will bring more $$ because of the appearence, but sometimes due to not being used it might not sound as good as a well worn "road warrior",that has been used (not abused),and repaired and maintained by a guitarist or tech who knows what they're doing.

This is about as "relic" as I care to own......

Image

My all-stock, all-original '65 Princeton Reverb. I got it from the second owner and aside from some long-neglected maintenance and servicing issues plus an NOS replacement speaker, it needed only some general cleanup and TLC to bring it back to "catalog photo" condition.

Thanks, RS.

I'll be able to take a vacation to the Caribbean with the proceeds if/when I ever decide to sell it.

Arjay the previous owners are to be commended for taking such good care of the amp and kudos to you for recognizing the need for keeping such vintage beauties in great condition.

Thanks, GS.

I was "gear poor" as a kid and quickly developed respect for any equipment that found its way to me. And my folks taught me early on that the value of anything bought is measured by how much you care for it after the purchase.
