Has anyone had any experience with the Raytheon metal 6L6 tubes? I have come across some sets and was wondering if anyone had used them, will they fit in a BDRI?

Thank You

These should not be used in a modern amplifier unless a metal-cased tube is originally specified in the design. They are not designed to withstand the typical voltages of modern amp circuitry. This applies to metal 6V6's as well.

Sure. They're terrible. Send them all to me for proper disposal.

Raytheons are among some of the best NOS glass around -- second only perhaps to the RCA blackplates and mil-spec Westinghouse. And they'll last for decades with proper care.

I agree with Arjay...I have several metal 6V6s packed away...wish I could use them, but nope.
Raytheon glass tubes ARE good,if they're in good working order.

I read somewhere last year that the metal housing are connected to some voltage and become very dangerous to use in modern equipmet.

Have somebody heard about that ?

Arjay,

I let then get away, they went for $35.89 for a NOS matched pair!

That was a helluva good price......you snooze, you looze.

I have a matched quartet of them in my '67 Showman. They sound awesome!

Funny thing about tubes, since the internet has come along tubes like RCAs and Mullards and Telefunkens have become legendary, and for good reason, but it has made lots of people think other lesser known brands are no good.
Many have been made by few companies, and relabled, which used to be good for finding deals in NOS tubes, but now most any NOS vacuum tube useable in HiFi equipment and music gear has a price tag that's crazy.

Indeed!

I still score my best hauls at garage and yard sales. A month ago I picked up some NOS 5U4G's and a shoebox full of mil-spec 12AT7, 12AX7, and 12AY7 subminiatures from the widow of a local guy who used to tinker with TVs. I paid $4.00 for the lot and immediately flipped the rectifiers for twenty bucks a pop.
