Hi cechansler,

That's normal for just about any tube amp, and maybe more so for the PJr. Sometimes, different preamp tubes, especially in V1, can give more or less of the buzzing, but a little is perfectly normal even with the best tubes. :)

On top of Shimmilou explaination, what king of pick-up you have on your guitar ?
It's obvious to say that single pick-ups are much more sensitive to common mode electromagnetic parasitic signal than Humbucker that reject this common mode signal by phase opposite pick-ups.
:)

Try to clean your tubes pins
1- Amp to off, disconnet from wall outlet, wait to have tube cold. Remove top back panel.

2- Remove one tube at time, start by the small ones ( preamp)
Look, they have a guide to pin, to replace safely the same way. IMPORTANT TO PULL TUBE STRAIGHT

3- Best clean-up is to use electronic contact cleaner, spray on tube pins and plug it in his socket many time to clean the socket too.

Do that with all tubes

4- If you don't have contact cleaner you can try 1 to 3 It could fix the problem too

Have you tried the Billm mods?

http://home.comcast.net/~machrone/bjr/pjmods.htm

'They address hum and hiss. If you do the filament offset mod, use a 200V cap and maybe a lower resistance than the 100K (R2) to reduce the offset voltage. The voltage delivered to the virtual ground is higher than it needs to be'.
