i am interested in hearing from anyone who is using a 5751 tube in the V1 socket of their Blues Jr. Is there much difference/improvement in tone when playing through humbuckers? Is the tone response worth the extra ten bucks over a Tung-sol 12AX7 in this socket?

Thanx for your reply.

I put one in my BDRI, and it sweetened the cleans considerably. It'll give you more clean headroom in the Blues Jr. I'd say definitely worth it.

I tried a 12AT7, which is a little less gain than a 5751, in V1 and it did give more clean headroom. It mellows the drive sound also, not quite as driven with the 12AT7. If you just want to tame the sound of the amp a little bit, I think that you will like the 5751, or even a 12AT7. After I modded my BJr, I liked a Sovtek 12AX7WC in V1 for it's clean and drive sounds. :)

I can highly recommend a NOS JAN Phillips 5751. I use one in my Rebel to knock back the gain slightly. The NOS JAN Phillips is a solid quiet great sounding tube. YMMV

Thank you gents for that. One other quick question regarding tubes in my BJr: do matched preamp tubes make a difference?

cheers, thanx for your responses.

The only preamp tube that you might want to have matched sections would be V3, the phase inverter tube. The V1 and V2 it doesn't matter. I've tried several types of preamp tubes in mine, I have not used any that were matched, not even in V3 and it sounded great. I do have a matched set of output tubes though.
