Love my deville 410, but I'd like to add a little more low end to it, I was thinking a 2x12 cabinet I see the fender ones are reasonable. Just wanted some recommendations for things to look into, you guys are awesome I appreciate it

According to the specs in your amp's manual, as long as your extension cabinet is 8Ω total impedance you'll be fine.

If he were to hook up a second 4x10 containing identical speakers as in the combo, what would he expect? Are there any cons to running 4 speakers in the combo cab and.. an additional 4 in the external? If so what would those cons be?

As long as the second 4 x 10 cab had a total system impedance of 8Ω, there would be no problem whatsoever. The HRDvl's four speakers are each 8Ω, wired in series-parallel configuration.

Such a rig would sound monstrous with the right amp.

The volume wouldn't drop as a result of adding the four addional speakers?

In that case, just turn the volume control .

Try it sometime.

What I am asking is with the assumption that the vol knob is all the way up on the combo, by itself and you can't turn it up anymore, it's pegged, would the vol. actually drop as a result of adding the 4 extra speakers?
Recall what you said "Such a rig would sound monstrous with the right amp."
Right amp? What's wrong with using that lavric's deVille amp to power (2) 4x10 speaker cabs?

I used a Hot Rod Deluxe stack (AMp + Hot Rod Enclosure 112). Last year I switched to a Hot Rod DeVille 410 to get this nice 10" sound.

Now I use the DeVille in combination with the Hot Rod Enclosure. The cabinet fits exaxtly underneath the amp (the 410 DeVille and the Deluxe have same width).

The closed back 1x12" cabinet adds some bottom end to the DeVille sound.
And the amp stands now about 40cm higher which is better for hearing myself.

Greetings
Martin

Sorry to reply to such an old post but it is relating to my query exactly.

I have a Blues Deville 4x10 and want to add a 1x12 or 2x12 closed back cab to beef up the bottom end.

Q1. I need an 8 ohm cab, is that correct?
Q2. What wattage cab should I get (never understood the relationship here)?
Q3. Will the volume going to my 4x10 diminish?

Thanks!

Is that 100W total (As in 2x50W) or 100W per speaker?

i.e. If I get a 1x12 it must have a 8 ohm input and a 100w speaker minimum
If I get a 2x12 it must have a 8 ohm input and two 50w speakers minimum

Cheers man.

Sorry for the stupid questions but a guy I know is selling an 2x12 with Jensen speakers in it. He thinks the speakers are 100W each and are 16 Ohms each but he tells me it is an 8 Ohm cab? Does that sound correct?

Also, it is a home made cab with a tweeter that can be turned off an on with a switch? What is the benefit of that?

Thanks.

Speakers would have to be wired in parallel to be a total of 8 ohms.

Tweeters are sometimes used in acoustic guitar amps. The tweeter would have to have a proper crossover network and high power handling capability to be of any value.
