i know EXACTLY what you are describing.
Sweet spots can be found on those smaller tube amps like the blues jr
if u work with the guitar vol and pickups. You can experiment and get that warm WARM sweet $@! sound by doing that.
BUT, sometimes I USE a BLANKET and literally DROP on top of my smaller tube amps and that really helps with the boxy - cold tone, experiment with that on that blus jr, you may be really suprised....

i will say that my 5e3 based circuit with a 15 inch speaker gets that WARM gold everytime everyday.....

i really love 15 inch speakers on guitar amps -
Bobby Lee Rodgers gets one of my absolute fav tones.... he uses a leslie cab and a super reverb along with a TTE box

hope that helps you~

Indeed!

Nothing sounds sweeter with a blackface than a JBL D130F!

Also...you say that the 2nd input on the Super Reverb instantly drops the volume by 6db. Does this mean a 6db drop in output volume, or a 6db drop in input volume? Would I still be able to drive the amp using the second input, but at a lower volume?

anybody mind taking on this question? doesn't look like anyone ever addressed it, and i'm very curious as to the answer. i have a blues deville, and the manual says the 2nd input is to get cleaner sounds out of high output guitars, or a darker sound out of passive guitars.

does this mean that it would take more volume to get it to break up on input 2 than input 1? i guess so, right?

interesting. i'd never put much thought into the 2nd input, just always used 1. i have a boost installed in my strat. now, i should say that i DO like the breakup i currently get from input 1, but i've got some 6v6's on the way to lower the output, so, something to tinker with i suppose.....thanks!

On a Super Reverb, the 2nd input gives you a 6dB drop in input volume.

With a corresponding drop in signal strength going into the V1 first stage.

This may not be an optimum situation when driving the amp solely with variations in pick attack and the guitar's volume control.

hey rabmag, nobody mentioned it, and i know this thread has been dead a month or so, but i think your singing is pretty good-certainly at the very least "good enough", and your playing and songwriting are great too (those were originals, right?). just thought you deserved some kudos.

oh, and i almost forgot-don't start playing metal. the last thing the world needs is another metal player. no offense intended to metal players/fans, but you just seem to have your own sound, and i think it's fairly original, which is a breath of fresh air these days. :D

Hey man, thanks so much for that! It is much appreciated.

I've never been big on metal, but quite honestly, I'm keen on learning many styles and incorporating it into my stuff. :)
