Just curious. Which speaker did you put in it, and how did it change the sound (for better or worse)?

I'm fixin' to install a Celestion AlNiCo Gold in mine.
The Jensen P12N would be my second option.

I think I will do some before/after recordings and post 'em.

For more info/opinions on the Celestion Gold

Do yourself a huge favor and look up weber speakers.

Got rid of the cheap "jensens" in my 59 bassman and put in a set of webers and it was like night and day !

Webers are made in the USA and sound Great !

I tried mine through the closed back 2x12 vintage 30, and thought it sounded really good. I've heard that the v30 is a common upgrade for this amp. I thought it really smoothed it out and took away the harshness.

Any opinions on how the pronounced mids of the v30 affects this tone? I read that pronounced mids rob you of clean headroom. I found this to be true by turning up the mids on my amp. I also read that the tweed amps already have a big midrange, so maybe this would not be a good pairing for me?

I'm looking to get a speaker used for under 100, so that's one reason why the v30 was appealing.

I had the supersonic original and it came with a vintage 30.
that thing split my head open with its bite, treble spike or whatever you want to call it.

Weber makes several speakers in your price range and you can talk to the guys making your speaker and tell them what you want and they will set you up with a speaker that fits your desired tone, power ect....

Check them out and see what other players say about them.

Their stuff kills the mass manufactured stuff and for about the same price.

I replaced the speaker in my original BD with a Vintage 30, it smoothed things up and made the amp sound warmer from what I remember, definitely wasn't a brighter speaker, I liked it in that amp. The amp is gone now but the V30 is still around..

yea my opinion of the stock speaker is that the highs are harsh and brittle sounding. It needs to be warmed up, but I still want the cleans to sparkle.

I've just purchased a Celestion AlNiCo Gold 12 aforementioned.
It won't arrive for about a week so not much I say yet about it.
I also purchased a new Shure SM57LE and my plan is to do a speaker comparison test through the mic straight into the computer and then post the results.

I have a 2010 American Standard Strat (SSS), 2006 Gibson 56 Goldtop VOS with P90s and a 2000 Esteve Classical (made in Spain) which has two Dean Markley Pickups running through a blend pot and L.R. Baggs Para D.I. preamp.

It'll be a comparison video(s) between the Gold and the original Stock Fender Special Design Eminence Speaker. Detail specifics will provided in the video's info box.

I am not the greatest guitar player, and IMHO, almost everyone else plays better than I but.... I think I offer some basic chords and tab chops.
IF what I provide helps someone else in some way, then I've accomplished my goal.

The Celestion Gold is a very warm organic speaker. I think you'll really enjoy it. They do take a while for a full break-in......25-30 hours should do it.

well, I know the celestion gold is probably awesome, but it's just too expensive. It doesn't make sense to me to put almost $300 on a speaker to put in an amp I only spent $500 on. If I wanted to spend $800 I would have bought a different amp, like a twin reverb haha.

Anyways, so the reason the V30 is attractive is because I can get on for under $100 used. Any opinions on what the best speaker for ~100 used is?

Thanks
